Give it to me Raw

I thought it would be interesting to hear what beauty tips, products, makeup, routines, etc that people have tried, tested and dismissed.

Maybe we can learn from one another's mistakes. :)

I have used Clinique, Estee Lauder, Dr. Haushka, Aveda, my own concoctions (given up all) and something I'm really loving from Whole Foods! It's French and lovely! I've given up on my daily homemade routine, as my face got entirely too dry and wasn't actually getting CLEAN. Just plain ol' coconut oil is not enough for me for example. I hope to do some of the homemade organic masks and such when I feel inspired to. This is not a daily thing though.

I can't stand the smell of most hair stuff. I do like Aveda though.

Positive affirmations and feeling very vibrant is my best beauty advice!

I got major league bumps under my arms when I stopped using Tom's of Maine and made my own deodorant: extra-virgin coconut oil, aluminum-free baking soda, and a few drops of essential. Abandoned that after two very several "reactions"... Now I'm back to using Tom's of Maine; however, I cannot stand any sort of "beauty product" when I'm juicing or doing a juice cleanse. In that case I go without and shower often. If I'm 100% raw, I have no odor. I've noticed I have disgusting underarm odor if I eat little bit of cooked food.

Facial rejuvenation (acupuncture) is on my list of things to do within the next 2 years!! Then it'll be a monthly visit, and I'll look Youthful! Yay!

I must look the name of the French line for you. I will.

Here are a few of my failed experiments...

Avocado oil on my face -- it literally turned my face a pale tint of green so that I looked somewhat nauseous all of the time. People kept asking me if I felt alright. It also caused areas in my t-zone to turn red, which took awhile to disappear, even after I quit using it.

Jojoba oil on my face -- this worked great in the beginning, but I live in a cold climate so that it made me dry and flaky in the end. I'm sure this is much better for those who live in another climate.

The tried and true winner for me is extra virgin coconut oil. I take at least 10 minutes to massage it in. By doing so, it penetrates the skin, moisturizes, and sometime blackheads rise to the surface on their own (I didn't massage the oil in in the beginning and my face stayed quite dry.) I wipe off any excess with a cotton pad. My face is as soft as a baby's butt. It also took away the greeness, redness, and dryness from my previous failures. :)

Hi Nell!
I'm so glad you started this discussion. I hope you don't mind if I mention a few things that I've tried and LOVE.

Face
-Kiehls Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion Scrub - so nice
-Taking Evening Primrose Oil makes my skin happy too

Hair
-Johnathan Product shower filter (actually nice for my hair & skin - the water is awful where I live)
-the Healing Seed Shampoo (I've only seen it at Whole Foods) I love it
-Hamadi Healing Serum

For body stuff, there's 2 great cheap things:
-rayon scrubbing mitt from any Korean beauty supply - they cost 75 cents and slough off dead skin like nobodies business
-Na-PCA spray. It's $3.45 on vitacost.com and moisturizes without building up on your skin like lotion does.

Here's what I spent a heap of dough on and it wasn't all that:
-Prevage Eye Cream & Anti-Aging Serum: I started using it & my eyes suddenly had wrinkly bags AND I had a painful breakout on my normally clear skin. YIKES!
-Moroccan Oil (any of their products): Some people swear by it but it dries my hair out! I wouldn't recommend it.
-anytime I've tried putting avocado or any natural stuff on my face it generally ends in disaster.

I don't use soap or a cleaner on my face anymore, I use a cloth by Norwex, out of Canada. It is antibacterial (made with a little silver) and it soft as can be. The micro fiber is so small that it literally grabs everything off my face and leaves it so soft and silky.

Can you buy it online?

I'm trying out Nvey Eco. Love the ingredients -- purest color cosmetics ever -- but am experiencing mixed results. The concealer is fabulous -- one of the best I've tried, as good as Chanel. The translucent powder isn't translucent, though: it's darker, almost a bronzer. I can't just "powder my nose"; unless I powder all over, I'm two-toned. The lip gloss is pretty fab, although the color in the tube is different from the color on my lips. If you want to try the line, you can order from Sephora.com, and here in NYC you can buy it (and try it) at Macy's Herald Square -- ground floor, 34th St. side, "earth bar," I think the area with the natural products is called.

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...
