Give it to me Raw

Well, food doesn't build muscle...

BUT

If you want a good POST-workout food, there are plenty that can restore your muscles and help you recover faster.

The best foods to eat while working out and building muscle are fruit.

Bananas are probably the best workout food, but anything ripe works.

Do you drink green smoothies?

try 3 really ripe bananas, 1 really ripe mango, and 2-3 handfulls of spinach. DELICIOUS.

or a mono-meal of 5-10 ripe bananas. MMMMMMmmmm

another GREAT food for workouts is YOUNG COCONUTS!

I agree that coconuts are a great post-workout food. I've heard that their water is the most concentrated source of electrolytes found in nature!

That green smoothie DOES sound delicious!

Thanks for the recommendations! In my mind I had imagined something more complicated but then again thats the great thing about eating raw. It's so much easier.

^truth. my post workout meals tend to be a bunch of bananas and a coconut water.

i probably run through a bunch of bananas a day.

avocado is great for building muscle - precisely because of the good fats and because they are calorically dense.

I always have a fruit and protein smoothie post workout, and following the advice of some of the members of this website use hemp protein in the smoothie.

I usually have something like:
3 apples
1 pear
1 banana
handful of strawberries
handful of raspberries
small handful of blueberries
2 scoops of hemp protein
1 scoop of maca (optional)
1 scoop of bee pollen (optional)
1 scoop glutamine (optional)

I think that a post workout meal/drink is the most important part of an exercise program as the body is is pretty fatigued after working hard and it needs some nutrition to start repairing/adapting after the exercise.

What do you think of using creatine. It is a trendy thing but is it acceptable in raw food-health circles?

creatine works by pushing out your fatigue threshold. it does work but i have hard of kidney damage in large doses so be mindful of it.

are you trying to build muscle?

I'm with Andrew on the importance of post-workout refueling and the use of hemp protein. Also, just something I've been thinking recently although I've read nothing to support this: the body's levels of GH (growth hormone) are naturally highest during sleep, so this is when the majority of actual muscle production occurs (that's why body builders sleep so much). So I've been thinking, on workout days, in addition to a post-workout smoothie, it might be a good idea to down another at night before going to sleep (maybe just rice protein without the fruit as the sugar might keep me awake). I'm going to give it a shot and let you know of the results.

You know what, lately I'm usually more hungry at night and find that my metabolism has increased since doing this. I think it does have something to do with muscle building when you sleep. So I think it would be a great idea to consume a shake before going to bed.

lol yes in many cases. Eating raw fruits and vegetables doesn't make someone more spiritual. If that were case, we could just eat our way to enlightenment. Many animals eat raw fruits and vegetables and still live at a gross level of ignorance an...
