Give it to me Raw

OK so my dehydrator arrived yesterday; my food processor is on the way. I'm about to place an order for nuts and seeds and such, and I plan to begin Phase 1 in a week or two.

My problem is I have always had a weakness for sweets. I love fruit but refined sugar has always been my ultimate weakness.

For those of you that have followed this diet, what do you do when you crave sweets? I know stevia is allowed in Phase 1, but there doesn't seem to be much else that might satisfy my craving.

Will I just have to exercise greater willpower?

Thanks!

Hi

I never talked to Gabriel directly about his thoughts on the exact candida diet to follow but I know berries are low glycemic and ok for diabetics and cancer patients to a certain degree. Raspberries are really high in fiber too.

One thing is coconut added to things. A little is ok. i would recommend lemon cookies made with coconut, stevia, cashews (or other nut)and lemon with peel\ zest added. I have made ones like this before and they were good enough for non raw vegan. Frozen sorbet would be another thing to try. Figs are ok as well. Roll in ground flax for a faux fig newton!

According to the chart and the book berries aren't allowed until Phase 1.5, and he recommends never consuming cashews haha. He says in the book that cashews have a high mycotoxin and fungal count. I can try it with another nut as you suggested, that sounds like it could work for me. Coconut pulp is allowed, just not the water.

Did you follow Phase 1.5? Or was it more just cutting out sweet fruits?

There is a lady in the Las Vegas meetup.com group who followed Phase 1 for 6 months and cured her fibromyalgia and some other ailments. I'll have to quiz her also about how she coped.

Yeah I was at the tree so 100% was very easy. They were very selective on what they made. I have always had more of a salty craving though it is a lot less now. I could eat a bunch of corn chips before but if I eat regular ones they are really salty now. It is great because thet used to be my downfall.

They didn't have bananas, smoothies, cashews etc. at the tree so I guess what I was thinking is that a person can be phase 1 as far as not having fruit but can still be phase 1 if they eat cashews- they just won't be the exact "tree" phase 1.

So this can be kind of different depending on what a person is doing exactly. We had coconut meat but very occasionally. I actually wasn't craving sweets but would have wanted carbs if they were around like mashed potatoes.

I ate a few deserts there with stevia that were ok but they were really heavy with nuts and that wasn't that appealing to me so I didn't get into it that much. The little fruit I did have was near the end and it was like orange vinagrette dressing and some strawberries on a kale salad.

You could try chocolate pudding with carob, stevia and avocados- I am not 100 % sure about the carob but it seems like it would be ok. I used to have Gabriels book Rainbow Green but it disappeared and I need to buy another one. So I can't be totally clear right now but I had what presented as fibromyalgia and intense joint pain that was cured there.. on their diet..

If you're serious about doing phase 1, no cashews, pistachios. It is possible to mix in some 1/5 fruits like berries into your meals or smoothies but the sugar is to be kept to a strict minimum for 3 months anyway. You have to sit out the sugar cravings and understand it's the bugs looking to be fed. I found a teaspoon of barley grass in water always helped when I had strong cravings. It's not easy doing a phase 1 so don't expect to still enjoy sweets. Good luck on your journey and keep posted on your progress.

Thank you!

Please tell me more about his barley grass in water. Do you grow your own or is this a powder?

It's a powder by lifestream I think. I used to use 1 teaspoon in say half a glass to a glass of water with a pinch of sea salt, tasted like milk to me and really helped when I had cravings on phase 1.

I have always been very addictided to sweets way beyond anything I want to admit here.
When I started the green smoothies I was amazed at how my cravings for sweets all but dissapeared.
They are obviously giving my body something it really needs.
I think the green powder is also a great addition. Raw chlorophyll from living plants well there is no substitute.

It's actually surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. No machete required. Shave off the husk at the pointed top close to the shell. Then poke the point of a knife in about 2 or 3 cm out from the centre and wiggle it about until it pierces ...
