Hi everyone. After surviving quite well the last 4 moths being raw on Waiheke, I'm now heading South for a trip and am a bit worried about finding good options. I'll be in Queenstown and then Wellington for a week and would LOVE any suggestions for places I might enjoy. I've had moderate success going into restaurants in Auckland and just asking them to pretty much leave out everything but the lettuce and tomato and maybe add an avocado. But wondering how this approach will go over?? Thanks in advance for any help!!
Queenstown: I don't know about anything in Qtown - last time I was there I didn't/couldn't find any cert-org food shops.
Wellington: There are a few supposedly good cert-org food shops in Wellington - Kelly Myra (here on GitMR) who lives in Wgtn will know about those.
Christchurch: I'm in Christchurch (the largest city in the South Island, on the east coast, half way down), and I know of a few raw-friendly cert-org food shops and restaurants/cafes here in Christchurch - including one restaurant/cafe that has some moderately gourmet raw vegan food and smoothies (The Lotus Heart Cafe in Cathedral Square). Other normal restaurants and cafes have served me fine when I've asked for a salad with no bacon, egg, cheese, oils or dressings, bread, etc - I can tell you the names of those that I've had good experiences with, if you want to know.
Dunedin: I know of at least one cert-org food shop in Dunedin (the next biggest city in the SI, south of Chch, 4 hours drive away).
South Island places you might enjoy: there are many good and beautiful places here in the South Island, including the Nelson region, the Marlborough region - esp Queen Charlotte Sounds (just west of Picton - which is where the ferry from Wgtn lands), the Kaikoura coast, Christchurch & surroundings, Arthurs' Pass, the West Coast, Queenstown and Wanaka, Mount Cook & the Lake Tekapo region.
Here in Chch we have 2 raw vegan events per month, approx every second Saturday night. Contact me if you want to know about our next event. We usually have a RV potluck dinner and a RV-related movie/documentary/talk to watch/listen-to.
Hi abp, I just found this thread and noticed you live here on Waiheke - I do too! If you come back get in touch for a raw talk. :) There is a great raw bar in high street, auckland called Raw Power - 1/10 Vulcan lane. Also in Wellington (if you have not already passed through) a great cafe in Cuba Street called Midnight Espresso, they make gorgeous big salads with lots of grated veggies in them. You are the customer, you can demand they omit or add things, and I am sure most places would be interested to know what their customers want. If they have the indredients, they can do it - if they don't, then don't go back! There is also a great organic store in Queenstown who would advise you of somewhere to eat out. It's called 'Destination Organic.' Have fun. :)
That is so true, its very funny and Miss J wears the most random things every week. This last season Tyra "revolutionized" the industry by putting short girls on the show LOL
Yes, your liver can regenerate and adapt. I juice feasted for 3 months to clear some health ailments that I had my entire life. Anyway, in the recommended regimen they recommend taking some fat every day like 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and 1 tab...
I did it to get rid of allergies. Of course I was not raw when i did this, I did a treatment for chicken, i basically had extreme sensitivities to a bunch of different foods and was always craving chicken as a result. After I could eat it without ...
Unfortunately, my dogs were microchipped before I got them. I haven't decided what to do about it yet. Really don't want them to have surgery to take them out.
thanks for all the comments.
