Give it to me Raw

Hi: I'm really curious to try a juice feast -- and I need to lose some weight and clean out a bit. I have a Breville Juice Fountain, and I love green juices, but I have very little time for shopping and prepping my drinks.

What would you advise for a first time feaster? Celery, romaine, lemons and limes, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots... what else juices well? Spirulina, bee pollen... any other supplements that help? Any canteen or mason jar suggestions?

I wish there was a juice delivery service in NYC. Hint to entrepreneurs: this would make a great business, especially in summer! Have people request their juices online by 7 p.m., make them overnight and deliver in the morning. Maybe I should start doing that, come to think of it...

i totally agree with the delivery service idea, it would be a fabulous partnership with an organic farmer and the community of support would be amazing!

i have a breville too, and just from my experience i would definately reccomend squeezing the pulp through a nut mylk bag to really get your money's worth.

as for suppliments i used spirulina, maca, flax oil, E3Live, and bee pollen (which is kind of a tease because you get to chew it). i really found my body craving the flax, however i couldn't have too much or with fruit juice or else it would cause upset stomach and runny stools (not so fun!)

great veggies on your list so far. i would love to suggest spinach, kale, apple or bell pepper for sweetness, grapefruit for something refressing, and then if you like herbs and spices like parsley, mint, cilantro, ginger, garlic etc.

Best of luck, keep us posted!

In NYC, there are a few Norwalk pressed delivery juice companies! such as:

I did a juice feast last year, and would like to do another one soon to clear up my skin flare ups.

For juices, I had so many, but what I recorded that I would have 6.75 quarts of juice a day, instead of the minimal 3/4 quarts. I'm only 5 ft tall, but I guess that's what I needed to clear up my ezcema and psoriasis. Juice feasting is so wonderful and healing for the body! I loved it last year.

As for supplements, at the end I used bee pollen, spirulina, green vibrance, probiotics, flaxseed oil, coconut oil, and I think that's it. There's more at my juice feasting blog lilyflowa.livejournal.com

Thanks for the advice, Lily! Great stuff. Have you tried any of the delivery services? I'm a little nervous about them... they don't use plastic bottles, do they?

Yesterday I made a beautiful kale, cucumber and carrot juice for breakfast, but I couldn't bear to let all the pulp go to waste! I ended up having pulp and avocado wraps for the rest of the day. Come to think of it, it was delicious, and I feel good today.... maybe it's not so bad. That cucumber pulp is so delicious! Would make a nice baby food.

i've been saving my pulp and i'm going to make crackers with it. you can freeze the crackers if you don't want to eat them right away. i also feed some pulp to my dog.

but if you have a lot of pulp, your juicer might not be doing such a good job. i switched to the blender method and i have a lot less pulp. i had a breville too.

Organic Avenue and the Blue Print Cleanse uses glass bottles, and when you return the bottles you get some money back ($1 or so).

Liquidtaria uses plastic bottles.

I fed the pulp to my 2 dogs last summer, they looked so great after my juice feast! =) You can also mix the green pulp with some extra virgin olive oil, lemon, and salt to make dehydrated kale chips for the winter. There are so many recipes on goneraw.com that you can use the pulp for (dehydrated, frozen foods).

Also, if you don't finish a juice that day you can make it a popsicle for tomorrow!

Or you can donate the pulp to the NYC Union Square compost on Farmer's Market days (there is a stall in Union Square). The compost will be used in the NYC parks.

Thanks Loren. Makes sense to me. My problem is that when I blend (which means more volume of fruits) then i am more regular with my bowels. What I can eat & chew doesn't always trigger peristalsis in the same way. I had chemo a few years back and ...
