Give it to me Raw

I thought I'd add a bit of optimism to this group: In an attempt to share and understand raw foodism with me, my boyfriend has been doing a 95% raw diet for the past week........ and he is really liking it! He's been busy in the kitchen uncooking for me... making me raw dinners, smoothies, dressings, and dips. After this week, he's mentioned he is willing to be raw at home (but not when we go out). So, three cheers for open-minded partners who aren't raw (or even vegan/vegetarian) but are willing to go the extra mile to make us rawkers happy. ;)

My hubby supports my raw lifestyle and he has changed from a diehard carnivore (when I met him) to vegetarian and now almost vegan. He enjoys some of my raw dishes. Loves the raw desserts but he still feels that raw doesn't satisfy him. He needs to eat food with substance, so he says.

Nice post, Jean. Way to be positive!!
My husband likes fruit for breakfast, will drink a very green smoothie, eats lots of salad, and made the comment the other day, "no, let's let this fruit digest before we eat our other food" to the kids at dinner.

He's also considering getting his fillings changed from mercury to white, put his alarm clock with LED lights far away from him, etc.

Gradually accepting new ideas!! YaY!!!!!!

My husband will not do raw with me at all. He thinks I am weird for doing this and I tell him that it will make him feel so much better. He sees me making my meals for the week but doesn't eat any of it. The only time I eat cooked food is at dinner time with him so he doesn't feel out of sorts. How did you cope with this. He would not budge in eating raw with me.

Keep doing what your doing. I learned not to tell him that raw is best for him and just let my actions do the talking. Now my husband is almost vegan and enjoys some of the raw food I make. He says he wants to be completely vegan but still likes cheese on his veggie pizza. If you make desserts, make simple raw desserts and don't tell him it's raw.

Thanks for the info. I will try the deserts and see what happens.

I gave up most cheeses overnight. I had issues with dairy. I was never a milk person but I enjoyed Greek salads with the feta. One day I was having a conversation about vegetarianism with a friend many years ago and he was challenging my ideas about dairy. He got me into a corner and I ended up confirming that I may not drink milk but I do eat fermented breastmilk of cows. I said that facetiously but then I started thinking about it. Ew! Cow's breastmilk. Turned me off then and there.

Does your husband enjoy fruit or any salads or anything "traditional" raw?

I started with making smoothies with all fruit for breakfast . would he enjoy that?

Also, then I would serve a salad at supper before the other food, and since he likes salad he'd eat a lot and then not be as hungry for the cooked food. (also have the kids eat their salad before the other food) I just gradually add more and more of the vegetables raw instead of cooked. Like tonight I chopped some raw zuchini into the salad in addition to the zuchini that I fried.

This helps get the ball rolling, I think, slowly. (my husband already was willing to eat salads, most other veggies, and lots of fruit of all sorts though--he loves fruit)

Its been hard for me to be all raw too, and I think it is really harder when you are making food for others, or they have it around. Also my husband has been pretty unsupportive in a lot of ways over the years, and with raw food. Just keep going, and keep trying to find your way, and cope in whatever way you can, and you'll gradually learn what you need to do. I think the worst is to try to force him to see your point or eat your food. Just offer it nonchalantly.

Awww, what a guy! My boyfriend is a Chef/Charcutier.... which means he basically slow cooks and ages meat all day at work. But I got him to make some sweet potato chips with me tonight. :) He even brought some kale chips to work with him to share with the other "butchers"... they loved them! Maybe we really are onto something after all!! ;)

My husband is open to the idea as long as he can "still have a cheeseburger when we go out" lol. So that's good. He is against me doing the 92 day juice feast though. He thinks it's a fad crash diet. I've been doing research on it and I know I'll get him to open up to the idea eventually. Having different diets doesn't have to create a wedge between us and honestly if it did I would probably back off the idea because I want to be healthy, but I'm not going to be stubborn and break up our marriage over it. Fortunately we're both handling it well. :-)

How important is salt to the human diet? I never really added much salt to my meals (mainly pepper) before going raw but until recently I would of added himalayan salt to every raw salad over the past 9 months. I have been off it for around 2-3 we...

Ani Phyo would be good, given your ingredients. I like Ani Phyo's Raw Kitchen. Her stuff is very sweet and heavy, though, IMHO.
