Everyone is welcome. All of the house sitting sites online that I know of charge a fee (on average $40) for house sitters to advertise. I'm still finding out information and I'll post more when I know more. I understand there is such a thing as a house sitters contract, that I think would be appropriate in any situation, I'll need to find out more about that. You could start a discussion, explain your situation (like U did Jef), what times you need someone to house sit, and maybe what part of the world you live in. If you already know someone here or someone is a GITMR friend and you may already trust to an extent you could contact them and negotiate from there. Thanks.

I've always wondered about this and it is something I would like to try in the future.
I also understand the paranoia associated with house sitting -though I know that I am an honest person and would respect to the utmost my host's property, I have a hard time feeling the same about whomever might stay at my house...
Interesting dilemna.

Christine, I also think that is an interesting dilemna, it seems I am so protective of my own stuff myself that I understand the situation very well myself, and so would respect to the utmost a host's property. I would have a hard time having a sitter in my home also (because I am so protective), and that is exactly why I would be a good house sitter (I would be honest and respect my host's decisions and property as they are my own).

It would be such an honer to have someone trust me enough to let me into their home (knowing that I myself would have such a hard time with this). This Is also an area that I would like some help with and I think a homeowners trust and hospitality of letting me into their home could help me be more hospitable and trusting myself, as I would get to see the many ways people act and live I would become more familiar with others character. This would give me the knowledge and experience I need by actually seeing how people can be trusting and hospitable themselves. So you can also see how a protective person is exactly what a homeowner wants when it comes to protecting their homes. This also may actually be a sign of your own hospitality... being that you are so sensitive to hospitality itself. Maybe we want to be hospitable soo much that we never realise we are. Maybe we're just really sense able people.

personally, for some reason people tend to trust me with car keys, staying in their homes while they are away, etc... i guess it's because i am trustworthy.
