Give it to me Raw

So, it occurred to me that while most people in the West think of Tantra as having to do with sex, that is really one of the smallest components of "Tantra." Tantra, is a dimension of Hinduism that emphasizes the cultivation of "divine power," or shakti. Divine power is the union of the masculine and feminine, which is one of the reasons why we in the West confuse it with sex, however, it is so much more than this. There is a wonderful book on the subject called Tantra: The Path of Ecstasy, by Georg Fuerstein, I highly recommend it.

I would like to open a discussion on the union of masculine and feminine and how this contributes to the experience of the divine... if anyone has any thoughts related to this, or has more in depth knowledge on the history of Tantra, or your experiences, please share, I would love to hear!

Hi, in kundalini yoga we do white tantra... which is just the renewable breathing and exercises that translate sexual energy into viability for whatever needs we have... sexual energy is the most complete source of energy we have... it originates in us from before we are born, it is just knowing how to use it, for sex and everything else, that tantra is about... and I am very loosely summarizing this... I could definately get more into it... also there is egyptian tantra, which is another form of yoga, and what the egyptian spirituality was all about... I would say this is where the indian yoga and tantra originated and I would say the egyptians probably got it from the nubian region before them.

I think it's hard for people in general(society) to not be obsessed with sex because that is our origin, it is in cultivating sexual energy with spiritual power that sexuality can be really harnessed for great good, with or without having physical sex.

Tantra is indeed the cultivation of connecting to the divine power or energy within, the raising of divine spiritual energy within the physical expression of your being. The raising of Kundalini, as has been mentioned, is connecting to the spiritual aspect of self, and recreating the femine energy of Shatki. Tantra is not about sex in a physical sense, but more connecting with ones higher self in order to obtian purity of being and to achieve oneness with the universe, as is Kundalini.

The use of Tantric techinques in a realtionship can be extremley enilightening with a hightening of sensual awareness which precludes the need to have sexual intercourse. These 2 links show the relationship of Tantra and Kundalini.
