I have found that garlic and onion do not resonate harmoniously with me. I have met others who have the same situation and I know that certain raw restaurants like Cafe Gratitude in San Francisco note menu choices which can be or are prepared without onion or garlic. This group was formed to raise awareness for those of us who prefer to use the thousands of herbs and seasonings other than garlic or onion in our raw food. If more raw chefs are aware of this need, perhaps more recipes will be offered that omit the garlic and onion.
I found a website with additional information: http://www.iskcon.net.au/kurma/discuss/msgReader$454
Love this! I ate garlic the other day after having been without it for months, and I noticed a HUGE difference the next day! I felt almost infected- my breath and body odour were awful, and I almost had a head fog. The same with salt. I retain water like crazy if I have any.
Thank you for that link! And thank you for joining this group. I am glad the word is spreading. I left a comment at the Little Cabbage blogspot that you linked to. Here's part of what I've discovered: I have had wonderful success at any upscale or fresh food restaurant that prepares food individually for each portion by just requesting "no onion, garlic or chives" and letting my server know that I am allergic. At chain restaurants and places where sauces and dishes may be pre-prepared or partially pre-made, garlic & onion can be very difficult to avoid. Balsamic and other fruit Vinaigrettes are usually safe, and I tend to order my vegetables steamed with just salt to avoid them being sauteed in garlic and oil which seems to have become common.
I'm glad to be a part of this group!
I stopped eating garlic & onions for spiritual reasons and also because I had allergic reactions to garlic & onions. I use to get lots of migraines and when I stopped consuming it....all my migraine headaches went away.
I've started this group in order to find and link with people who eat raw food in and around London too. We can share ideas and books, meet up for potlucks and even go out for meals together
