Earth was and still is a very widely used building material around the world. Properly made, structures built with earth enjoy a longevity far greater than those made with synthetic, UN-NATURAL, low-consciousness modern materials.

Anyone building a eco-friendly house OUTSIDE of Europe or the United States. My husband and I have land in Ethiopia and would love to build an eco-friendly house there. Any tips or any info concerning those building eco-friendly houses outside the mentioned areas?

The best advice I can offer is to start reading some books! Go to Amazon.com. They have a great selection there. The information contained in the books will help you decide which method fits your terrain. If you don't have a lot of trees, rammed earth or cob would be great choices. Also, an Earth Ship is an interesting option. Go to www.earthship.net for more info on this method.

Also, it would be a good idea to find or hire people with structural engineering knowledge so that they can advise you regarding the integrity of your design. This will have a huge impact on the longevity and SAFETY of your house.

What I'm doing right now is reading books. Educating yourself is the best first step.

I just finished and posted a report on a Sustainable Building Workshop I attended in June of this year. Check it out at http://www.isopach.com/outdoorjournal4.php

I do like the Violent Femmes but I think that is too pessimistic. Nihilistic hard driving folk.

I have not used the stuff for years, it gives me heart palpitations. but when I did use the stuff my 1st choice was liquid (especially the flavored ones they have like toffee) 2nd choice: white, which is more processed, but I can not even stomach ...

Soft rock is soft, not driving rock, but soft gushy love songs, romantic, smooth..stuff you are embarrassed to admit you like. Stuff that makes you imagine you are swimming with sea horses, or hanging out on a rainbow with your love.

Did you just blend banana and vanilla? I made ice cream with banana and cacao nibs... it was really good.

That looks really good. I should make more elaborate desserts, I tend to keep it simple.

Only because Suvine asked me to. I have almost no idea what qualifies as soft rock, but if most of the music here is any indication, that's probably because I don't actually like soft rock. For the most part. Does Queen qualify as soft rock? I ha...
