One of the most important aspects about breathing - healthy breathing that can make a difference to your "whole being" - in terms of physical, mental, emotional bodies is .....
Slowing the breath down to one breath cycle per minute. Which means ... a 20 second inhale. a 20 second retention and a 20 second exhale. And doing this patter of breathing for anywhere from 11 to 31 minutes per day for a period of time.
EVEN working towards this - like slowing the breathing down to two breath cycles per minute will be of help.
Would love to hear of any one that works with this type of breathing
OR
any other breathing / pranayama that has made a contribution to the life .
Yes, this is good. It seems there is a spectrum of breathing patterns and styles. I've found that rapid breathing (super-oxygenating) can also do some amazing things. The people that I talked with that do breath work said that it is better to start with this as a foundation, but I think you can work from both directions (heaven to earth, earth to heaven), depending on where you are at . . .
ohhhhh my ... yeah ... so true. A good deep Breath of Fire (rapid breathing for the belly from the nostrils) is FANTASTIC as well. Doing anywhere from 3 to 31 min. of Breath of Fire will change the life as well - for sure.
In my daily life I make sure to do both - a rapid breath to start with and ending with one that is long slow and deep. yeah.
Interesting, in the book it says you kick into an "automatic" mode at about 15 minutes, where it feels like the breath breathes you and takes virtually zero effort. I noticed that it was difficult at first to do the breathing (in this case rapid) but after a while (don't know how long) it was automatic . . . Nice to know you don't have to "work" the whole time. They recommend like an hour I believe . . .

Thanks for all of the tips, it's funny how much others advice can really help you, even if you already know what you are being told. I guess its why people who have been doing yoga for 30 years, take classes from 25 year olds.

Adjust your posture and align your spine by sitting straight up. Grow for a moment. Take a deep breath in, push your abdomen out as far as you possibly can while you fill your lungs to their fullest capacity. Suck in even more air. Hold your breath and let your brain fully oxygenate itself. Do a slight back bend. If you begin to feel light headed dont pop, slowly exhale consciously while contracting your abdomen, do a laughing action if it helps to rid yourself of all of the oxygen. Hold it for a moment until all you desire is more oxygen. Repeat until you die.
I have been incorporating this into my meditation practice
and have been experiencing benefits that are almost ineffable.
However, I will try.
First my appetite diminishes for a long period of time
after I complete a session. Furthermore, when ever I do get the
"sensation" of hunger I usually focus on my breath and do deep breathing
and it goes away, very similar to emotions when meditating.
Second the serge of energy that arises in my being is so beautiful, potent and light OXYGEN.

I feel the same way. Breath can curb anything, except love. I think the picture is of air flowing into a room through a window, pushing a curtain inwards.
