Raw Food not only changes your relationship with health - it also changes your relationship with money. Raw Food and holistic education starts to make you really present to where your dollars are going and what impact they have on people + the planet.
Question: What don't you spend money on now that you use to? How have your dollars shifted since embarking on your health journey? What business do you support and not support?
Specific examples would be fantastic! We want to learn from your experiences.
I save seeds...not just any seeds, but seeds of plants that are heirloom, drought tolerant and prolific in MY ecosystem (Seminole Squash, Cutting Celery, Cherokee Tomatoes, etc) I could easily buy MANY seeds every year....I drool over the catalogs that have just recently started coming in the mail for next season. Instead I bought Seed to Seed and am learning to save my own.
I did succumb and bought a SECOND BATCH of about 30 packets of Asian Green seeds (yesterday) that will grow to maturity in 25-35 days but that was an investment - lol. Its in my emergency kit.
I don't circulate my money on "supplements" including so-called "super-foods". I DO circulate it at farmers' markets and roadside stands where, even if not organic, the food will be fresher, and often unsprayed and just not had paid the powers that be to call it organic.
I also don't pay for gym memberships or memberships at movement studios. Been with my teacher for 24 years now and we have class outside every Monday evening. If I utilize what I'm taught, I do good.
I now spend very little money on household cleaning products, i use mostly vinegar and baking soda and make my own laundry detergent out of lemon, essential oils and herbs. When i go to the supermarket i pretty much bypass the cleaning products aisles all together,it is great because it is those products that cost the most money.
I also spend even less money going out because i don't drink alcohol anymore.

I don't buy shampoo in bottles anymore, I just use handmade bar soap. If I need something I try to make it myself, or get it recycled.
The main things that I spend my money on now are "necessities", food, & books. Oh & donations to people & causes I support. Gifts for other people etc.
.....By necessities I mean chocolate too. :-D
....But in the end (if I am lucky) I will have nothing!
The Best Purchases that I "Bon Boyaged" from my existence came out of the Persistence of these Darn Sensational Trees!! I always throught they were such quiet beings..BUT certainly NOT! As an Avid Book Collector - and in so doing also sadly a Tree Hunter I now Do not purchase any paper products made in the "norm" way.... not really raw food related... except thank heavens most raw foodie books are printed using post consumer paper or sustainablly harvested (etc) So my stationary...cards(oh sweet beautiful cards!) wrapping paper and anything not Tree Friendly in Production I do not purchase.. I have now bonded with the Blessed but dearly forgotten Library and the Art of Fabric Wrapping and Card Creation! Cioa hallmark... I'll see you again when you make Hemp Fiber Cards with Plant based Inks! (Can't wait for that day!!)
I don't spend anymore (and boy DID I!) on COKE, anything with cocoa in it (raw or not), anything with flour in it, anything with sugar in it. THIS is what I call raw freedom!!!!

e-cards are the "eco" thing to do right now :)
I never put cards with my presents when giving in person, I just tell the person what I want to say. Saves so much paper, and is more heartfelt, in my opinion.
I don't spend money at the big chain grocery stores anymore, I prefer to get my produce from either the local natural foods place or from independent grocers. They usually have better stuff anyway, and if you ask them they'll order things. I've really drawn back from buying things compulsively since I've started trying to eat more raw, so that I can spend my cash on fresh fruits and veggies, dance and yoga classes. I'm cleaning out my closet lately and realizing how much STUFF I have that I don't use! Eating raw makes me feel very light, even if I'm eating 2 pineapples and 20 bananas and a bag of carrots and a few bunches of spinach every day, it's not food that drives attachment so much as, say, bacon. I've felt the same way about my stuff lately, and about whether I need to own all the things that I like, or if I can just own the things that I will use and appreciate the things that I like.
I used to buy skin cleansing products quarterly- not anymore!
No soda, or junk food.
Note- my hubby is not raw so if he wants that stuff, he has to get it himself.
I, unfortunately have a very loose relationship with money. I consider it's presence in my life a luxury and not an obligation. So, I tend to spend money on anything that makes my life easier and more fluid. What I don't spend money on is anything that takes up space and clutters my home, my life, my mind.
