Give it to me Raw

GI2MR Weekly Theme 2: November 4th

Raw Food not only changes your relationship with health - it also changes your relationship with money. Raw Food and holistic education starts to make you really present to where your dollars are going and what impact they have on people + the planet.

Question: What don't you spend money on now that you use to? How have your dollars shifted since embarking on your health journey? What business do you support and not support?

Specific examples would be fantastic! We want to learn from your experiences.

This topic was inspired by a post I recently wrote titled Everyday is Voting Day.

Since going raw I stopped spending money on bottled water, coffee, takeout food, fancy restaurants, non-organic cosmetics and self-care products. And since going raw eventually lead me to quitting my job, I no longer spend money on daily public transportation, business suits and everything else that goes with it.

Instead I buy organic foods from farmers markets or Whole Foods, use Aubrey Organics, grown my own sprouts, use water ionizer and organic house cleaning products (like Seventh Generation).

I didn't renew my gym membership, because, honestly, all I need is a floor mat, some free weights and resistance bands, a few yoga DVDs, and I am set.

Nice sheets, very you Suvine......If you can afford it and you really want it?...Go for it babe!!

My personal opinion though make sure you're supporting the right people with all that money power of yours, but you probably know this....;)

Dry clean only? Are those gorgeous sheets organic? (I would hope so for that extortionate price) Don't they use nasty chemicals for dry cleaning??

That's not your house is it? If it is, well done you and sleep well..........:)

Wow thanks for sharing this, interesting, see I don't think enough people are doing it, hhhmmmm have you checked out the venus project that is being proposed as part of the Zeitgeist movement? Interesting concept!.....would love to hear your thoughts on it

Now I'm a bit confused, maybe I should ask you guys what the "Green Movement" consists of in your views, maybe we have a very different idea of what it means....?

TV license! I haven't had a TV for about three years. It's taken almost that long for the TV Licensing people to leave me alone, since they seem to find it very hard to believe that anyone could actually not have or want a television, hehe... I don't miss it at all.
I also gradually stopped buying glossy magazines... this wasn't a conscious decision, it just happened. I also haven't bought (or read) a newspaper in years.

The shorter list is what I DO spend money on. There are just too many things I don't buy.
I shop at the co-op down the street for organic groceries, toiletries and some cleaning supplies. The farmer's market only lasts a few months in the summer and has very little organic options.
I pay my rent, utilities and cell phone. I love to support the Ecopolitan, the only raw food restaurant in Minnesota. I buy a monthly unlimited pass to a non-profit yoga studio. My raw friends and I swap raw books but sometimes they're so good I have to buy them!
Occasionally I will buy something from the American Apparel store I manage. I'm there 6 days a week so that's all I really wear anymore. I used to wear mostly thrift but at least Am App is American made. If I need anything else I am very picky about where it's made, what it's made of, etc.
That's it. That's all I really spend my money on. I don't really need much more... Except for a vacation!
Oh, and once in a while I'll buy a bottle of Frey wine.
