Give it to me Raw

GI2MR Weekly Theme 2: November 4th

Raw Food not only changes your relationship with health - it also changes your relationship with money. Raw Food and holistic education starts to make you really present to where your dollars are going and what impact they have on people + the planet.

Question: What don't you spend money on now that you use to? How have your dollars shifted since embarking on your health journey? What business do you support and not support?

Specific examples would be fantastic! We want to learn from your experiences.

This topic was inspired by a post I recently wrote titled Everyday is Voting Day.

hell yea green! Rip it up! Don't toss your hard earned (worthless :) ) paper to those corporate bottom dwellers!.

No one is lightyears from where you are, we are all in this journey together. Maybe some of us have been here longer, but we are still at the same spot where you are.

My list looks pretty similar to everyone else's. Something I've recently noticed about myself is that I'm very reluctant to shop at large chain grocery stores. I've had an aversion to other types of chain stores (WalMart, KMart, Target, JCPenney's, Khols, etc) for awhile but the other day I couldn't find a Jicama at any of the co-op grocers that I usually frequent and had to go to Price Chopper to buy one and felt so guilty and wrong giving them my money!!

Starting by paying attention to my health has definitely increased my over all awareness. If only we could help the rest of the world wake from the fog of their lives!!

I buy anything and everything that is raw and organic, I feel really good about supporting organic farmers, if you go to a farm you see how hard and back breaking work it is to not only grow but pick and pack out organic food! I have so much respect and love for them. I go to farmer's markets often then Co-ops then Whole Foods in that order. I never buy processed or junk foods anymore, I hardly watch TV I do go to movies a lot still, I try to buy only organic clothing but that is not so easy and I am trying to make that easier, most people don't know that cotton is one of the most polluting things on the planet! All the pesticides they use on cotton is mind staggering, we may be eating organic but we should consider wearing it too because they use even more pesticides and pollution into making clothing then they ever do with food and most people do not know this fact...

I like to buy and support products from the raw community and people who really care...

Well..the 1st thing i got rid of at the beginning of the year when I went 100% raw was my TV and I dont miss it one bit..and now I cant believe how I got by with it I have no time now..to do things..so how did I get on before....aaaaargh! Oh but I did miss Strictly Come dancing!...
And the second thing is I notice I don't need to make as much money as before in my practice..I seem to ...offer the cheap way round things for my patients... I tell them where to get the best raw food deals for superfoods etc and more!
No booze! of course and so no need to go to pubs.a real strange feelin at 1st...... but you get used to that?
And I dont feel the need to go into town shopping for clothes as much..i d rather spend my money at health Food Fayre or Mind Body Spirit Show where I can spend just a bit too much for my liking he he (:
And i want to spend my money on anything to do with raw.
I nfact my whole attitude has changed towards money...I am working less hours and giving more to me for a more holistic way of life..and ultimately I would like to grow my own vegies etc (:

At my place my parents and I started using a fireplace instead of electric heater of any kind so it does make a huge difference on our electricity bill during winter time. The warmth from a fireplace is very tender and gentle, i love it:) so does our wallet, i think.

I've noticed that people say organic is more expensive but when you cut down on all the uneccessary crap people buy it more than balances out. I find I have a little bit more money to do things I like. I still have to invest in a few raw kitchen necessities, like a dehydrator and a better juicer. I am cutting down on clothes shopping and focusing more on quality rather than big box stores like the walmarts and targets. I did buy a bunch of glass storage tubs for prepared foods. I also find Mason jars and glass ware at a used store near my house, since its used its better and not going to waste. I haven't used any lotions in over a year and most cosmeticsI've given away or plan to give away. I make sure cleaners and soaps are natural, I do love my Dr. Bonners soap and I use vinegar, baking soda to clean.

I stopped buying things that were harming my body and mind, drugs and alcohol. Also, coffee. Man, between bars and starbucks I would blow so much money! My body and my bank account are definately better off!

I make more conscious decisions to help businesses that are more forward-thinking, more eco-friendly and generally don't find myself buying any of the worthless crap that I once loved - my diet and my mental diet have helped me to let go of most of my comfort foods/products/habits.

I am forever grateful for nature and love.
