Give it to me Raw

GI2MR Weekly Theme 2: November 4th

Raw Food not only changes your relationship with health - it also changes your relationship with money. Raw Food and holistic education starts to make you really present to where your dollars are going and what impact they have on people + the planet.

Question: What don't you spend money on now that you use to? How have your dollars shifted since embarking on your health journey? What business do you support and not support?

Specific examples would be fantastic! We want to learn from your experiences.

This topic was inspired by a post I recently wrote titled Everyday is Voting Day.

* No television anymore for 8-10 years..

I think this is one of the best methodes to alter "the system".

Main reason is the information which is NOT there, (that would, by being around, soften the pain of the info which is indeed there..)
and the monopoly of just a few people owning the television-world.

We don't watch TV either for several years. We listen to a lot of music in lieu and silence at times.

Check out TheyRule.net you will be amazed at how many people you support without knowing it. I'm now only spending money on shelter, food & water. Actually thinking about moving to the woods or something, depending on the paper shackle is becoming annoying to me, and the whole system stinks.

p.s. - I was curious Dhrumil, what are you doing for commerce these days brother?

If you only spend money on shelter, food and water, how do you have internet access? Also - you can get the best quality water for free at a spring. You can find a spring near you at http://www.hometownlocator.com/ .

Household Cleaners. I started on this journey about a year ago in an effort to green my home and my family. So far.. so good. I went from using at least 3 to 4 cleaners per room.. to one. I try to use home made solutions as much as possible with a base of biodegradable soaps. I only use a steam mop to clean my hardwood floors and tile. I honestly started that easily about 10 yrs ago. My next step is to start making home based fabric detergent. Unfor.. I work full time.. so time.. is limited. But, I made it this far.. so I'll keep plugging away. I find that I spend less on cleaners this way. Good safe home cleaners last a long time. I try to support the smaller home based companies that make biodegradable safe products. There are tons of them online, and a great little community.

i don't ever shop at wallmart or any other store that has cheap products that chinese people have slaved over. i don't buy non organic shampoo, soaps, toothpastes and cosmetics. i don't buy disposable ziplock baggies or things of the like. i don't buy unatural house hold cleaners or fragrances. i don't buy disposable pads or tampons. most of the time i don't buy any articles of clothing that aren't fair trade or made of recyled and organic fibers. i don't buy cases of bottled water.

well, when i was introduced to raw,i realized i wanted to have a job in line with my new found values.the problem was,my new raw food boss took advantage of me(he wasn't an almighty king raw God)and so i left feeling not intrested in raw.i think most people wanted to shut me up after that,so i did.for 11 years,i didn't touch raw foods.or anything in the ways of well being.it took a miracle but i'm still holding on to what raw spirit i have.

Go Girl! To start something again after "public failure" and such a horrible experience takes great courage! Power to you!

I can relate to this post. Just because a person makes a profession to be "raw" or "religious" or some other seemingly pristine life path, doesn't mean they won't end up being an opportunist or manipulator. Those lifestyles that attract the idealistic also attract the sociopathic. Ultimately the decision to be raw or spiritual or any other major change in our lives is our own responsibility. It saddens me though that vulnerable people just embarking on their life changing path can become very disillusioned and discouraged, as well as possibly ripped off. We must end up being our own "guru" or "authority" and choose our eating or believing as best resonates in our own hearts...the old saying goes: If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.
I was fortunate to have come to the raw lifestyle a little jaded from past experiences so I wasn't going to believe the hype from raw gurus any more than hype from any other "lifestyle" teachers. My own body has been the best teacher as to what I choose to put in it.

What I don't spend money on these days:
"Special offers" from the current "raw teacher" flavors of the month.
Self help seminars.
Expensive "purifying" detox programs in a box.
So called "super foods"...the best super foods for me have been interestingly the least expensive.
McDonalds (haven't been there in many many years!)
Food-Like substances
Newspapers
Cable TV (and most other TV) I like the radio and internet better.

blessings,

Yeah basically the most powerful way to protect yourself against cancer is by reducing the amount of meat you eat per day to less than three ounces or eliminating meat all-together.
