Give it to me Raw

Joshua Matthew Duncan

What are some Scientific Factual Materials Supporting Raw Food I can show / give Family?

I'm eating 100% raw, and recently moved into my Dad's house, who is a meat and gravy sort of fellow. He sees fasting and raw food as harmful to the body, doing irreversible damage to the internal organs and leading to all sorts of problems later in life. I look in the mirror and see a radiant face (and was just called radiant yesterday by Arnold of Arnold's Way). I am slim, upright posture, bright face, often called bright and healthy...

Anyway I was approached today with concern for my wellbeing. I'm interested in any supportive materials I can offer my Dad and his girlfriend, with the intention of educating and gently opening the possibility that Raw lifestyle isn't unhealthy or harmful.

Many many thanks
Joshua

p.s. I approach my eating habits experientially. The science, such as where do you get your protein from, you need protein, you aren't getting protein therefore you aren't healthy and dont have the energy; I'm not able to speak to that, my presence is the answer and response, and those who I am communicating with seek more concrete substantial evidential proof and facts to logically understand.

THANKS

Check out Conscious Eating by Gabriel Cousens. Also, http://rawdoctors.com/index.php/live-food-factor.html for FACTS and research on raw living foods. Bless!

I'm especially interested in Youtube or video ~ Dad doesn't like to read

Can't help you with the videos, but there are three researchers who have delved into this pretty thoroughly:

Edward Howell - Enzyme Nutrition

Gabriel Cousens - Conscious Eating (references Howell's work quite a bit)

Viktoras Kulvinskas - Survivial in the 21st Century

Kulvinskas's approach is a little different than the other two, whom focus more on enzyme physiology (although Cousens has a broader purpose with his book - Howell is more the pure academic)

I'm sorry that your dad doesn't like to read, because Howell's treatise is truly mind-altering :-(

How about making your own video using your own research? Be your own guru.

Look up glycotoxins and acrylamides on Google. Lots of info there about those health-damaging substances that form when you cook food at high temps.

Also Google "grilled meat, cancer" or "charred meat, cancer."Lots of studies there about cancer-causing substances in cooked meat.

The China Study has some interesting stats you can use.

Cousens book about diabetes also has some interesting stats.

If Victoria Boutenko comes to your town, maybe the dad will go along with you. Much better than watching a video.

Maybe make a simple list on each. If he doesn't like to read pages of material, maybe he will read a list of the main points.

Here are some quotes I include in my book in the chapter about glycotoxins and acrylamides:

“AGEs attack virtually every part of the body. It is as if we have a low-grade infection. They tend to aggravate the immune cells.”
– Dr. Helen Vlassara, of the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York; first author of a study on AGEs: Inflammatory mediators are induced by dietary glycotoxins, a major risk factor for diabetic angiopathy, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences; November, 12, 2002; PNAS.Org.

“The FDA has been strangely silent about acrylamide. It should be advising consumers to avoid or cut back on the most contaminated and least nutritious foods while more testing is done across the food supply. The FDA also should be intensively investigating ways of preventing the formation of this carcinogen.”
– Michael F. Jacobson, Center for Science in the Public Interest, 2002

“I estimate that acrylamide causes several thousand cancers per year in Americans.”
– Dale Hattis, Clark University research professor

The simple difference between cleaning kitchen equipment that is used to prep raw food and cleaning pots and pans and grills that have been used to cook food is an easy visual of what someone is putting in their body. There is a difference between the simple rinsing of raw food utensils with maybe some vinegar, and having to scrub pots and pans from cooking food using abrasive brushes and cleansers. Shows that the body systems have to go through to deal with heavily cooked food.

Another visual someone I know used was, from a distance, filming people going in and out of a fast food restaurant. And filming people going in and out of a raw cafe. A big difference in what the people look like even from a distance. Much wider, girthier customers going into the fast food joints.

If you dad does not like to read I would suggest getting the "Simply Raw - Reversing Diabetes in Thirty Days" DVD. It is only $30.

That's hilareous. My husband looks at the sun to make himself sneeze. There's some weird phenomena that 10% of the population has that looking at the sun makes them sneeze.
