Give it to me Raw

Hello everybody!

Since I haven't eaten meat (8 years), i have weird feelings in my legs, arms; something like pins and needles and it is very uncomfortable, these "prickling sensation". Even I don't know how to describe it.

I think everybody felt this feeling.

And it is really strange... comfortless.

So I have read and found in the Internet, that people who doesn't eat MEAT and don't eat enough B12 (and many more) can have these feelings and it is a little bit dangerous.

DO you think, I have pins and needles because of deficit of B12?
Do you also have these feelings ?
Do you take B12 - vitamin ?

thank you for help!

LETS BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY!

i have been a vegetarian for 15 years, a vegan for two of those years. I do not have that sensation in my limbs, but I do take a b12 supplement and have been for the past few months. I recommend it for everyone. It's not just a problem exclusive to vegans or vegetarians.

I have been raw and vegetarian for a year now, and I have begun having these feelings, shooting pains, like electrical shocks through my body and especially my hands. So I was not really surprised to find somebody else has these symptoms. I looked up vata imbalance on google and that can be aggravated by raw food, and it seems that sometimes vata imbalance can cause these feelings too.. I am going to buy some B12 and see if this helps. Do your feelings feel a little like electric shocks? Bless U xoxo

Hello,
thenk you for ur message.

Yes exactly! or i feel like .. many ants on my leg! haha

i also have found that it is possible, when people have problems with nerves and brain-system..
unfortunately brain-cells never rebuild, so it is not so easy to cure them,

but lets be positive!
we are raw! so we can do anything:)

hm.. maybe there are also other reasons..

Oral supplementation didn't work for me, so I bought the B12 patch. Highly recommend it.

Yeah I would take a b complex vitamin. If it goes away then you know what it is, if it doesn't go away then you might want to try alpha lipoic acid.

That "pins and needles" feeling in hands, feet etc. is a common symptom of mercury toxicity.

I would try a b12 supplement and see if that helps...it can't hurt can it?

Do you get enough exercise? I had similar symptoms awhile back and it was bad circulation from being sedentary.

Another tip: can you get havtorn (sea buckthorn in english) where you live? I found it in Sweden at health shops. It is really magical to add to smoothies and it is supposed to have some b12 and other healing properties.

In my article here, I explain why I am broadly (and the key word is 'broadly') anti-supplements:

http://debbietookrawforlife.blogspot.com/2008/08/anti-supplements-w...

However, I think with your particular symptoms I would actually go with Mellifera's advice above.

If you do find the supplementation stops the problem, then I'd suggest thoroughly researching the B12 area, in an effort to find out if there is anything in your diet, or any physical problem, that might be inhibiting B12 absorption. If you can identify this, then it may be possible to tackle the problem naturally rather than having to continue to take the supplement.

If you don't find the supplementation stops the problem, then I'd suggest stop taking the supplement, although that's a huge area, and not everyone would agree with me :-)

And just one thought...you say you haven't eaten meat for eight years. If you've been eating fish and/or dairy, you will have been receiving plenty of B12 (likely far more than you need) from animal sources. If this is the case, then either the problem is nothing to do with B12, or you have an absorption issue (in which case the supplement would be of little use.).

It's likely to be B12, I had the same symptoms in my limbs and hands about 6 months after becoming raw (I'd been vegan for about 10 years before that with no symptoms).

I got a sub lingual methylcobalamin supplement (get methyl instead of cyano B12, better absorbed) and take that regularly, symptoms have gone away.

this symptom of pins and needles can also be tied to candidiasis.

Make sure you are eating things with all the B vitamins in them. They all help with nerves. MSM is good for nervous system too. Maybe you should go and get your good self checked out by a holistic doctor? Or take a good multi vitamin or B complex and see if that clears it up? And then if the B complex pills clear it up and you don't want to carry on taking them, you could fill your diet with foods that have all the B vitamins in them coz you would know then that was the cause of the problem.

I've finally decided to seriously take the plunge into raw veganism. In August I was 100% raw vegan for 19 days but I went back to my sloppy vegetarian cooked diet. At least I've been vegetarian for over a year now. I'll never eat meat again, that...
