Hey there - I feel slightly intimidated at starting this discussion because it's probably going on somewhere else...
But I'm really really keen to start tracking loads of raw people's observations about their diet on this community I've just this moment set up at www.rawresearch.ning.com. I want it to be totally centred on research alone - tracking the things people notice - the good and bad of raw - even why you can or can't stick to it.
My aim is to then synthesise the info that accumulates over time into reports that might help others new to the diet. I think that by noting the negative as well as the positive, newbies won't feel so confused at the changes they're experiencing on the raw diet.
For instance, when I went raw - I had lots of weird side effects that I just had to investigate for myself, like I was totally in the dark. Some were detox effects - but others were just caused by innocuous seeming things like raw chocolate and eating too much fat etc etc.
So please if you'd care to share your experiences - or if you want to start a discussion on "has anyone else noticed this" or "why am I feeling this/that way" join rawresearch.ning.com and maybe we'll come up with some good stuff between us! I'll keep it totally focused on research...let me know what you think...
Struthe mate - I really must get a copy of that book...just out of interest!
Thanks for your input because it's actually you and Freelea who recently opened my eyes to the fact that 811 is probably the answer. I started off as a fruitarian without even realising other people were doing it - purely to fix my health problems at the time in the most logical way I could think of. I can honestly say that that's the healthiest I've ever felt in my life - however, there was something missing and I didn't know what (greens I think) so I convinced myself fruit alone wasn't the answer and went online to do some research which led to years of eating the way most raw vegans do. 10 10 80.
Gradually I've fallen back into the yo-yo's myself and wondered why raw food wasn't making me feel totally amazing like it did at first. Ending up on an 80% low fat raw diet with some cooked veges every now and then (just becuase it made me feel better than a high fat raw one), I came across your videos recently, bought the Doug Graham book and haven't looked back. Fruit must be the answer man, or the primates would also be eating a pound of nuts every day.
Aaaaaaaaanyways, because I want raw foodists to continually question their diet (you know - not just think raw is the complete answer) until they find what REALLY makes them feel 100% (which I think is the 811 diet), I've set up this rawresearch.ning.com which I believe in time will show that people who're feeling the best are those eating in allignment with the bonobos. Hey, not sure about the ants and all that - but essentially they do survive on fruit and greens.
Also I want a place where people can read about the geniune experiences of many - instead of a book written by just one person. Don't you find you also never know what to believe when so many of the raw food gurus are selling stuff...stuff that definitely wasn't in nature's plan anyway...I want a pool of people's knowledge that won't cost a person anything to read from.
Blimey give me another few minutes and I'll be on a podium shouting about "having a dream". Anyway, it'd be great if you have the time to have your expertise on rawresearch.ning.com. There's something about you and Freelea that just told me, you guys were on the right diet - I think it was the basic contentment that you both exude - and the kind that is totally giving instead of the kind that makes other people jealous and excluded.
So sun, sport and life eh? Yeah, I definitely need to work on those - not easy when you're in the ratrace of rainy London - but my sis lives in Sydney so I get the feeling I'll end up over there one day when my work here is done...still at least you don't get so many death cap shrooms in concrete eh?

I think that your fourth point is fascinating and speaks to something I've been thinking about lately. This issue of transmutating 'super energy' into 'life purpose' is a difficult one to navigate. I'm finding that the raw food lifestyle asks me to change other aspects of my life and work to explore my purpose(s). Since I am not ready to do this, I'm actually intentionally eating fewer raw, health giving foods. Sad and crazy, huh?
Blimey - I had that too at my rawest! (The point at which I'd been 100% for the longest time). I felt I better "bring myself back down" with rubbish food when I found myself throwing a slipper at the TV because a multicheerios advert came on and said "It's something they like, AND it's good for them!"
"NO IT'S F***ING NOT!" I cried...to the horror of my flatmate and his friends. Ha ha ha! It's all good though - perhaps the right approach is got let your life get into a different place along with your diet...but it all takes time though eh, I know this.
Yay! Thanks Wayne! I think the best book I've read on the subject has been that Paul Nison one in which he interviews quite a few long terms raw foodists - I think between us we can build up something on a much bigger scale, and involving ordinary people from all over the place.

Ooooh, I can't remember it now...wait there, WAIT THERE! I'll just check. Mmm, I'm pretty sure it's "The Raw Life". Just looked it up on Amazon and the reviews actually aren't that good, ha ha. I see what they mean - but I do like Paul Nison - he seems to geniunely want to help people and I don't think he sells anything he doesn't believe in.
Quite interested in his new idea of the no dinner diet, although still trying to work out whether I agree or not...:)

I have a few raw transitions experiences I can share:)
In the newbie efforts to figure out what to eat besides salad, juice and smoothies, I took in more fruit. Not a lot, only 3 pieces a day or so. But they were giving me anxiety attacks=zinged out. But I also think I have a fungal/parasite issue so maybe this effect of sugar will go away after wards?
I also was not feeling grounded, even from salads. That is natural of course when you're used to heavy cooked foods, but it really helped when a friend advised me to take in more fats. Like many women I was afraid of fats, and now they are helping keep me full and my mind more stable (just like avos and hemp seeds).
Cacao makes my mind race as well, and I keep going back after I hear about what a miracle it is, and then remember it's effect on my nervous system. Very powerful stuff.
I would like a simple way to get seeds/grains (if any) into my diet, and have been finding that the frozen ezekiel bread really isn't too far off from raw. I am going to use it as a transition at the very least until i learn how to make my own.
I know I have a metabolism that requires a lot of protein, so that was a big issue at first. Nuts and spirulina don't quit cut it yet, so that is the only supplement I take and it helps tremendously in the transition. I just do a few tablespoons of rice protein. There is one company making raw sprouted rice protein but it is too spendy for me now.
My favorite treat is my daily blended grapefruit with spirulina, chorella, pecans and stevia.
Thanks for letting me share, and starting this discussion so we can all work with each other on the path to getting our magical powers back!

for people who becomes aware of this latest scandal, the one presented these recent days, and still are not deeply disturbed by this...for these people, nothing noone says can convince them to see the other perspective..for now.
yeah that is all fair to know, even though there's quite alot of attempts at personal attacks and discrediting people in these matters rather than just deliver straight answers to the questions.

After the third or fourth day I seem to function better then when I am eating heavy meals. My last fast I was walking eveyday. I just feel great when I am fasting.
I'm not denying the veracity of those emails... who knows. However, here is a little background on Tim Ball. I have a hard time trusting anything he says.
