vegan decides to add some animal foods (not buying the spiritual argument; she seeks more nutrients)

[snip]

"I tried supplementing to make up for what I wasn’t getting by leaving animal products out of my diet, but the more I studied what I was missing in order to supplement it, the more substances I discovered. I’ve finally bowed to mother nature and admitted that I can’t do it better than her."

telefunken that something is a law doesn't mean it can't be broken at times...especially in the US
Angus, It may seem like a piddling point, but I think it's important that we don't call theories "laws". And thanks for the clarification on this one. ----tele
Chad, I'm pretty sure there is a law against you saying that....; )
Having been a strict Vegan for over 20 years, before which 8 years Veggie. I have neither suffered deficiencies nor lack of energy; my only illnesses being the usual cold now and then and the very rare 24hr "Man Flu". How have I managed to be healthy and physically fit on a Vegan regime - by being very positive about my approach to eating a very wide variety of food, experimenting and exploring the wealth of Vegan friendly foods offered by nature. And of course I am also a 100% Raw Vegan who still has enough energy to work, rest and play hard.

I sympathise with those trying to follow a Vegan regime who may be surrounded by the negative, and often derisive comments made by non Vegans. However, there are many healthy examples of Vegans who demonstrate daily in their sporting endeavours and achievements that nutritional deficiency is not a result of following a Vegan diet, but due to a lack of understanding about nutritional requirements. There are millions of non Vegans around the world whose diets are bolstered by additional vitamin and mineral intake because their ability to absorb vitamins and minerals are a result of some physiological problem.

Having known many very healthy Vegans and Raw fooders who, like me, follow their individual tastes and requirements and have no problems, I have to say I have also known Vegans who have health issues due to their lack of knowledge with respect to nutrition, and whose diet was limited to processed and overly cooked food. One other ingredient required for a healthy diet and physical well being is to have a very positive attitude and approach. Treat the whole being that is you not just the physical expression, it is attuning the mind, body and spirit which people need to achieve well being and health, finding a healthy balance from within.

Enjoy exploring

This is interesting. I know a lot of people will disagree that different people have different needs, but in my studies into nutrition (in preparation for a career as a nutritionist), many of my soon-to-be peers in the field argue that in their experience a large number of people are not suitable for a completely vegetarian diet. Whatever the numbers on paper say, these experienced nutritionists claim that the bulk of their clients do not thrive on clean vegan diets, that they show symptoms of protein deficiencies, even when supposedly ensuring to obtain adequate proteins from plants, and going the extra mile to food combine. Mind you, most of these nutritionists have not tried their clients on RAW vegan diets...

I have no problem with people who feel they need some animal in their diet to feel at their best. I was a vegan for six years and it lead me to a lot of health problems. I wasn't doing it for health, however; I thought it was the morally right thing to do. Now that my world view has expanded and reality is no longer black and white, I no longer see it as a right/wrong or moral/immoral decision/action.

I read Vegans are from the Vega Star System, settled in India and are peacefull nature loving brown skinned people who tend to the small human size.
*Then theres the Catpeople who love fish and small wild game, they tend to have green eyes and golden to red hair. They're also from a Star system on this far end of our galactic arm. I met a woman who said she's one-very catty mannerisms too.
*Dog people from Canis Major etc. look like wolfmen and are tough warriors--omnevors probably.
* Bird people, insectoid humans and reptilians apparently prefer meat, blood and small portions of plants.
**Then we have the LIGHT BODIES that run mostly on photo synthesis plants esp. plankton and other plants too [plus eggs I've heard.] Maybe their higher order is the "BREATHARIANS".
*I don't personally believe humans evolved from monkeys, so I think the Vegans get the applause for "FRUITARIANS".
I love raw fruits and greens but I admit to some other DNA program cravings too. Know yr DNA and use moderation, that's best I guess.
*We as SPIRITS are more important than our bodies anyway, so who cares!
~*~ Keep that third eye OPEN folks.

There is a great fruit wholesaler in town, specializing in Local, organic fruit actually. All I need is a few people, a car and one willing person to go up there with me at some unholy hour (they close at 9am) once a week and it's beautiful fruit ...
