Give it to me Raw

Is anyone here a Vegan but has to take a medicine to keep them alive, feeling well and healthy that comes from an animal? What do you think about using medicine that comes from an animal? Could you still call yourself a Vegan if you did take a medicine that comes from an animal? Because you arent actually eating an animal just taking a pill. Any ideas or opinions?

lets be vegans. most importantly lets be realistic vegans and keep our standards high.

Is intolerance part of your "high standards" program? lol.

how does self righteousness fit in?

Could "realistic" include the understanding that crusading against people who are interested in raw diets other than yours might not be the most effective use of your time? After all, you just said you are "racing to save the planet". If this is so urgent....why waste your time converting a few thousand raw food enthusiasts to vegan.....when you could be preaching to the SAD world about their unconscious food choices.

At times it seems like you mis-represent your true intentions. Could this be more about hearing yourself talk than actually "racing to save the planet"? As you have said: Actions speak louder than words......

I would never take a medicine from an animal personally, for a few reasons:

1) I don't believe that animal products are necessary for optimal health.
2) I hold animals as equals, and would never think to contribute to the death/suffering of any animal for my own supposed benefit. (Unless a bear confronted me in a martial arts battle)
3) I don't take pills. Show me a pill tree and I'll try one.

Please note; I'm not telling anyone what to do. This is just my life.

I'm having trouble understanding your last two sentences... can you clarify what you mean?

I found it very inspiring. Life is already so wonderful, and now I can see more clearly how infinite our opportunities are to grow!

I also was very grateful that by not shopping at pet shore, being a vegan, not patronizing the circus/zoo, not buying cosmetics/cleaning products, etc., I'm not contributing to the images I saw in that film. It inspired me to further minimize my eco-impact in every way I can, which is a fun game.

I don't have to take any medicine, haven't in years. I'm not sure what I'd do.

But my advice would be to just be the best most compassionate person you can be, it's the only thing you can do. None of us are perfect. :)

I think that if that is what is best for you, then don't hold yourself back because you are vegan. I don't see any reason why you can't still call yourself a vegan, no one is going to police your vocabulary.
It's all about health and giving your body what it needs to be radiant.

I had to take Vitamin D that comes from an animal. Depends on who calls me a vegan but I am sick of deficiency and I just can't get enough Vitamin D from vegan supplements to get the levels back up. It's my only non-vegan thing and I feel bad about it. I did reject thyroid from dead pigs. I'd rather take synthetic.

RawZi do you take synthetic thyroid medicine? If so what kind? This is what I am dealing with and I just dont feel good on the synthetic thyroid medicines. Right now Im taking synthetic T3 and I just dont feel right.

I also learned that even the synthetic thyroid meds arent vegan because one of the ingredients is sourced from bovine, the magnesium stearate. Its in both synthroid and levoxyl and even cytomel has gelatin. So I get mine compounded with no fillers.

Ya I do have hashimotos, is that what you have? I also have type 1 diabetes. I am on synthetic T3 only right now. I take magnesium, Iron, food based multivitamin, vegan DHA oil, a product called Adreset for my adrenals, probiotics, digestive enzymes because I have low digestive enzymes, Im also low in vitamin D but I still havent got a good vegan vitamin D to take yet. I feel better on T3 only but I still dont feel right.

Ya I used to take synthroid a long time ago and it made me feel horrible too.

I was wondering about the syntetic T2 because I think that might be the thing thats missing to make people with hypothyroid feel good. I wish they made it available to get made at a compounding pharmacy or at least a prescription of it.

That sounds like fun.. There is a thing called double dutch where two girls hold two ropes and you have to jump them both at the same time.. maybe you could find a couple of girls to try this with you. It's pretty impressive when you see it..
