Give it to me Raw

Hello peeps, I made some lovely ice cream today for the first time in ages. I used the tamper but I really didn't like the sound of the vita mix and don't want to blow the motor. Any tips from experienced ice cream makers out there about the method of using the machine properly for ice cream. The ice cream turned out great but I want to be kinder to the vita mix. I'm thinking of maybe putting in a little water and coconut first and then adding the frozen fruit a little at a time?

Okay, since no one could help, I decided the best method is to make a thick smoothie and then just freeze that. It's good just to take out on the morning of the 'warm' day you want it.

Hi Anabrese,

I know the sound and the smell that the Vitamix makes when it is working hard. I used to be worried too, but I called Vita-mix and asked what they thought. They told me it was normal and the motor is just working harder. If you want add a little bit of liquid, but you still want to retain that thick nice texture. I like your method of the thick smoothie, but so much of the time my banana ice cream is a quick go to dessert that I want it right away :) Good luck!!

Don't be scared. I literally fight my vitamix and it always wins. The things are nails. I pound my tamper for hours at a time and can barely ever put my vitamix to sleep, which is when it overheats and automatically shuts down and cools off. Also, because of this its pretty much impossible to break it as you fear.

Frozen bananas alone makes a great fresh - light - easy ice cream. Just freeze bananas and blend them until smooth. Add fruits or whaver to flavor or just eat plain. Its good and the vitamix just handles it so don't worry.

Peace

Yum I use fresh coconut water and meat with frozen cherries and bananas. And sometimes cashews. David Wolfe said he eats raw ice cream only, for dinner sometimes, it's the best. We call it "Bubblegum". bec. of the color.

Thanks everyone, that's great help. It's just that the machine did get repaired once many years ago after trying to make tahini, so you might understand my concern. But, I will be brave and practise until I get my ice-cream to go!

Hey,I use my food processor for ice cream too.Esp. good when adding treats to it.I can "pulse" it and it stays more frozen while easier to control. Yummy bliss. Niki

Thanks Niki, that sounds a good idea, I will try that.

That sounds delicious! I've never tried a cherry and banana combination. My blog is all about David Wolfe - http://healthyfoodrawdiet.com/david-wolfe/david-wolfe-and-his-healt... and if anyone is interested, there is tons more content about his diet :)

Okay, think I've sussed it now. I do put a little water with the frozen berries in first with the coconut oil and blend that and then start adding the bananas a frozen slice at a time and use the stomper in a circular motion until I've got my ice cream!

Your vitamix will simply shut off before you burn out the motor, so there's nothing to fear.

Just came across a peach Ice cream recipe using 2-3 very ripe frozen bananas, 1-2 peaches and a dash of vanilla to whip up in the Vita-mix. i agree w/ everyone else...just plunge those frozen bananas until you have your soft-serve. You can't kill it.

P.S. I have a hard time sleeping without some nightcap food too. I was addicted to bananas and almond butter before bed, but I'm trying to phase it out by freezing bananas in the morning and then making raw ice cream at night.

Banana peach coconut smoothie for breakfast, then 3 Collard wraps with spicy mango salsa, avocado, onion, cilantro, sprouts, and sauteed portabello mushroom. Amazing. Now I'm contemplating dinner. Might treat myself to Que Seraw Seraw in Burlinga...

P.S. Yogi, When my body is in an unwanted condition like ill or overwhelmed I also ask it "What do you need to get well or fix that condition?" Watch closely for it's FIRST THOUGHT and don't invalidate it. Then do whatever you please of course-you...

hi stacey, I was doing Hatha Yoga, that involves asanas, prayanama, bandha and mudras. Apart from yoga we were taught Anatomy, Psychology, Philosophy etc., so that the students of this course could teach yoga and take it as a profession later.
