My friend has just been diagnosed. She is VERY low in iron too. She isnt raw, or vegan, however, just wandering what i could recommend to her as an alternative remedy/food/supplement/therapy????

there are a few people on this site who have either cured or massively reduced the issue through diet. do a search on this site to find some old conversations.
i personally know a guy who had colitis to the point where the doctors where going to cut out part of his intestine and put a 'bag' inside him.
he changed to 100% raw vegan, in one year he returned to the same doctor and that same doctor couldn't even find the slightest sign that he'd ever had colitis, let alone such an advanced stage.
interestingly the doctor choose to believe it was an unexplainable mystery than give any attention to the possibility that it just might have resulted from the change in his diet.

Soaking might help, I really don't know for sure. My father eats soaked dried chestnuts. The dried ones are really hard and they get a little bit softer when soaking them, but they are'nt as sweet soaked.
