Seems like a silly question, but how do I know when my spotty bananas are too ripe? Lately I'm not enjoying them so much, they have an almost alcoholic aftertaste, but they arent squishy or anything, just very spotty...hmmm
Lol thanks for the tip...still don't know how ripe is too ripe. If its just a taste thing that I cannot get used to, if I'm *gasp* sick of bananas or if mine are just a little toooo ripe...
if tis too ripe then it may be fermenting, eventually, (sugar) and hence the alcohol smell or other similar volatile compounds... so I use them right before they hit that point.
(as in you open it up and the entire thing or much of it is brown mush and you smell alcohols)
Thanks Jiva,
I cannottell if its just me, I don't wanna waste all of these nanas n throw them out! I hear its a fine line between ripe and too ripe... how can we tell?~~?!!?
OOoops I didnt see how u wrote (as in you open it up and the entire thing or much of it is brown mush and you smell alcohols)
Mine arent brown or total mush, maybe a lil bit mushy, yellow though...
I think it's personal preference. I like my bananas when they start to get brown spots on the peel but with no brown on the fruit itself. My friend likes them once they are completely brown. My grandmother likes them best before the peel starts getting spots. We all have our different preference. If they are tasting fermented, I would say they may be too ripe. But in the end, unless they are covered in mold and have turned to mush, its all preference of the person eating them. Eat what feels right and taste good to you.
True, I suppose in reality I like them pretty unripe but I know they don't have much goodness for me in that state.
I wish I could just live on lady finger and strawberry bananas, actually :)
xx
