Give it to me Raw

for the past month i'm having a lot of issues with my thyroid. I can feel it, it makes me tired and it's hard to breath at times. It get's worse after eating vegetables or fruits, or after a workout. If anybody struggles with the same issue and uses any supplements that are actually working can you please help...any help or advice is very very welcome.

The first thing to figure out is whether it is autoimmune based. If that is the case I would do chickpea miso with shitaki mushrooms and seaweed in the morning. You can soak the mushrooms overnight if they are dry so they don't have to be cooked. If miso is too gross you can always put seaweed and medicinal mushrooms in the blender with other things to make them taste better. Cinnamon and ginger and or cacao are good. I have heard coconut can help with thyroid and metabolism issues.

I have a dropper of iodine and put some in water or juice. It is a convenient method if one does not want to eat seaweed all the time.

Im sure there are other ideas. I hope you feel better soon! I also take tyrosine and feel like it increases my metabolism..

I started taking a complex of L tyrosine and some minerals, as well as kelp pills. 2 pills a day of kelp have 600%dv iodine and only 2%dv sodium, so I like them better than just eating seaweed. These two supplement have helped tremendously in the past two weeks, energy is through the roof as well as endurance.

Have you tried avoiding goiteogens(kale, strawberries, cauli, broccoli, collards, peaches etc.)?

If it's autoimmune based (Hashimoto) then you should avoid iodine.

Thyrocare has made a big difference for me:

Also, most of us are iodine deficient and need anywhere from 12-50 mg (that's = to 12,000 to 50,000 mgc), so, as you can see, the RDA (200 mcg) is set way too low and sea veggies alone aren't usually enough to get your levels high enough. Japanese have an average iodine intake of 13 mg/day.

You could try Iodoral iodine tabs or Atomidine drops.

I would also suggest researching adrenal fatigue, as it is often implicated in thyroid problems.

I recommend reading The Body Ecology Diet; it is helping me. You can still do high raw vegan on this diet; however, eggs are very beneficial for strengthening the thyroid.

Eliminate sweet foods and be sure to eat plenty of sea veggies. Take kelp supplements. (The sea veggies and kelp strengthen thyroid and are high in iodine--very important for thyroid function.) Supplement with iodine too.

If you can afford it, go to a doctor, and get tested so that you can receive medicine. I recommend Armour Thyroid over the synthetic brands. Armour is used a lot among natural practitioners.

And, of course, breath, movement, spirituality, and energy work (dance, qigong, yoga, positive affirmations).

I second Rawzilla's suggestion on the body Ecology Diet. Hypothyroid often has to do with kidney yang deficiency and spleen qi deficiency, both of which the BED is appropriate for..
However, if you tend to feel cold, make sure you're not eating cold foods and use warming spices. If you have very cold symptoms, 100% raw may not be appropriate, as it is very cooling.

yes i do get extremely cold that's why i hate winter so much. last winter i was so cold that my toes were turning literally purple and i was getting very itchy bumps on my toes, it was horrible and I'm not very happy that fall is here already because that means winter is coming next :(

I've heard about Armour Thyroid but it is only available by prescription. I wanted to go to a doctor but at this point I can't afford it. I'm saving up for a doctor's visit because i don't want to be guessing and start taking pills and other stuff that aren't necessary.

i have Hashimoto's and am hypothyroid. for this i supplement with nascent iodine and coconut oil. are you seeing a doctor? i have found that i cannot function without the intervention of (western) medicine. however, have you heard of Andrea Beaman (she was on the first Top Chef)? she claims to have cured her thyroid problem with nutrition and supplements.

don't agree with the whole raw food creating a damp environment thing because of the wildly different effects of different raw foods. i've found candida to respond to 100% raw, several different approaches.

I like to do fasts as well and I think the power in fasting is that its a remedial action, one part of the process of purifiying. For instance if you feel you have a lot of non-virtuous residue or spiritual obstacles to remove, you generate regret...
