Give it to me Raw

They always say: "Make sure you get enough calories"

Isn't the phrase "make sure you get enough calories" meant for people with a healthy weight? But what if you're overweight like me? I've lost 18 pounds so far in about 6-7 weeks. I need to lose about 50-60 pounds more. According to Nutridiary.com I need around 1950 calories a day.
I usually feel ok with 17-1800 calories a day, but feel a little pushed to eat more. I don't have problems feeling too hungry unless I go below 1600 calories. Actually most of the time I feel great. :)

I usually eat a fruit smoothie in the morning: 2 bananas, 5-6 oz frozen fruit/berries, then about 7-8 pieces of fruit which includes my lunch. After work I have some fresh orange juice from 3-5 oranges. A few pieces more of fruit. For dinner a large salad 1-1.5 pounds. 1-2 more pieces of fruit. A large green smoothie: 3-4 bananas, 3-4 oz leafy greens, 2-3 dates, 4-6 oz. frozen berries and water. Sometimes later in the evening I'll have some dried fruits or 10 nuts or so.
I eat avocado, seeds and nuts 3-4-5 days a week usually in my salad and as far as possible I still stay below 10% fat. I had one week where I had 15-20 % fat everyday, I didn't like that. I definately feel better with less fat.

It should be a case of simple math, right? Eat less calories or exercise more and the weight will come off.

So the question is.....Is 17-1800 calories a day ok for me until the point where my weight is close to where it's supposed to be?

I agree with both of you on the counting calories thing, it takes away focus from listening to your body. Eating has to be enjoyable and fun. I was always more of a veggie inclined person, but now I LOVE fruit more and more. It's so satisfying to eat and beautiful to look at. I think I have a crush on fruit. <3

I'm the same way! I love to romance my fruit. :-)

raw fat does me my body a trick...IMO, if you exercise and eat sensibly, your excess body fat would come off eventually.
but no matter how much RAW fat i eat, i just cannot gain weight. so yeah, I agree with some on this thread that its not as simple as carolies in/out adovocates want us to believe.

Hi Yukiko!

There was a guy there who ate everything and couldn't gain weight. He ate avos, handfulls of nuts, all the sugar (fruit, figs, cacao, coconut oil) he could get his hands on etc. Only after eating spirulina consistently did he gain weight. It was amazing how good he looked.

I know you probably hear that a lot 'Make sure you get enough cals etc...' As far as I can see Its mostly for people who are having trouble staying on 100% raw/high fruit raw because you are more likely to find dehydrated/cooked/calorie dense foods more appealing if you are hungry...
In saying that if the bodymind isn't getting enough calories then fat loss will slow down, your body may think it needs to conserve energy/store fat because there's a shortage coming in so it will hang onto every one of those cals as tight as it can...
To me all the following means I am not eating enough fruit/calories... Are u experiencing any of these??

After a fruit meal do i feel like eating anything else?

When I walk through the food court am I fighting back the temptation to leap the fastfood counter and stuff all the burgers into my mouth in a frenzy?....

Have I got a sudden urge or 'inspiration' to 'whip' up a gourmet recipe??..

I am feeling tired, lethargic, dizzy, or spacey(could be dehydration too)

Am I unenthusiastic about exercise? (could be not enough rest too)

Am I tempted by complicated raw gourmet recipes at raw picnics

Are nuts/high fat raw meals appealing?

If the body isn't getting enough carbohydrates/fruit sugar it will not burn fat as efficently . If you want sustained fat loss you need cals to burn cals, but the right cals in the form of the bodies preferred fuel...carbs.
The fact that you had 15-20% fat everyday last week says to me that you aren't actually eating enough so your body goes to a concentrated source of calories like nuts, seeds and avo, those foods will always look more appealing if you are hungry (even if you don't make the connection).
What training are you doing? If the cals are restricted for too long then staying raw and lowfat raw will be extremely challenging.
Sustained fat loss is the goal right?

It's very possible. 15+ years in the game, and you learn a lot, like how to reach your audience. You think he'll let me see his home in Hawaii?

I've met some hit chix on GITMR. Not satisfying in the least. Just the opposite. Most communication is self-defeating, accomplishes nothing. I would love it if people would leave me alone when I'm out and about. Anybody else?

Mariam, watching this raises questions: for instance, is this guy just an actor? Seems like it. "Am I glad I went"? Well, in the sense that I knew I had to see him eventually.....I guess I got it over with (and used up my airline credit). Is he a...
