Give it to me Raw

So how bad do you want to be in denial? How much will you grasp to dogma, not facing the truth that we do so much to harm ourselves?

We rarely listen to our bodies, instead we get whisked away by "gurus" or charismatic people who are the farthest thing from those who bare the truth.

Most of these ego-maniacal know-it-alls are full of it. Not sure about that? Want to know how a strict vegan diet can deplete your body of B12? Read about our friend Harley, aka Durianrider.

From http://health.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=695434:
...remember, Harley completely cuts out anything to do with animal products and relies purely on raw fruit, veggies and nuts. His results have got Susie really worried: "My biggest concern is that your vitamin B12 is one of the lowest clinical levels we have ever seen!"
Harley's B12 was just 78. That's drastically lower than the normal intake range from 145 to 637 and means our vegan could be susceptible to anemia, blurry vision and loss of feeling in the hands and feet in the long term. "In the case of vegans, it's really up to them if they decide to supplement with B12. It is primarily from animal-based food so it's probably worth him discussing it with his GP or medical specialist," says Susie.

Still sure that a diet that you NEED to supplement is the best one for humans? Hmm..... it seems that the DR's take on the 80/10/10 is one of the biggest scams. Follow DR to illness if you like, it's your choice.

What do you have to lose, besides your teeth? Oh yes..., poor vision, no feeling in your hands, and anemia. Oh, to dogma!

My comment did not challenge low fat veganism in healing candida. So I don't know what you were adding to ; )
Again, my comment was about credibility and unsupported claims.

; )

Your comment might be more relevant somewhere else.
Well, considering he just said that supplements could be useful above...I have a hard time believing he didn't use them. Not that there is anything wrong with supplements...

But I won't believe it's entirely possible to do low fat vegan or any type of vegan without b12 supplements without having low levels until I see real scientific documentation. Not some hearsay or anecdotes.

Agreed. And who's to say he's even vegan? I know of plenty of people who claim and push a certain diet and lifestyle--some of them have quite a following--and then you get to know them, and it's all a lie. Thankfully we have a number of means to explore the truth that go beyond trailing behind a fruit-pusher preaching online.

By the way, Blueberry, I have no reason to believe Durianrider, so his claims are not my compass to the truth. He is an example of some truths to me--but his claims are not.

He never replies to my challenges, and if you read the recently posted exchange between him and Burke Bryant, he avoids answering questions. Others on this site have found the same thing--he swoops in to proselytize but runs away when the legitimate discussion begins, when valid questions are raised.

So, again, I say look within, look at the community, look at science, and look to our elders for the truth. Look at people who have nothing to gain or sell and listen to their stories.

Yes Rawzilla. Also the argument that Dr doesn't earn much money with his

talks/doings is a non-argument to me, because he is building a huge internet-

personality around him (there is nothing wrong with this , of cause...), which

is for some people more important than selling powders, but

in general you can say he is also getting and building something from his efforts,

just like powdersellers, there is no much difference, only the ways are different.

Exactly, Lightlover, which is the very reason I said a number of them "have a following" (rather than earn a living). Ego, cash, it's all ulterior motive.

Funny thing about the so-called powder pushers. "They" have not once pestered me about my diet, which is more than I can I can say about 811ers ;)

The only people coming after me are telemarketers on the phone--just this minute in fact--and 811ers when I say high-fruit didn't work for me.

it's true, even Hippocrates and Tree of Life leave space for other opinions.
Rawzilla, I do believe him though, as I've read on other forums of 1 or 2 people having raised B 12 levels the same way. I do not agree with everything DR says but I do believe him on this. B12 is a complex subject and is not resolved by chucking supplements at it which in my case worsened a problem and didn't resolve it.

Blueberry,

No question B12 is complex subject and not always resolved by taking supplements; however, sometimes it is. I posted a bunch of scientific studies where the deficiencies were corrected with supplementation. I am personally familiar with malabsorption issues.

I still see veganism as an added risk, but certainly not the only factor.

I know someone who died of lung cancer who never smoked. That doesn't mean smoking is not a risk factor.

But in this thread, we're just discussing DR's claims about his levels, so let's stick to that.

I just said I don't believe DR, and that to me his credibility is shot. You believe him, and I hear ya. We just differ on this one.

i completely agree that people experience different things...

(no offense, but i'm still skeptical of the "B12 correction" claim.)

Sorry but I think this falls into one of the many time nutritional science just doesn't understand how to see "deficiency" in B12. For one, comparing DR's B12 levels with the average is a misnomer, because most average people are eating a SAD diet, where foods are supplemented and fortified with B12. If he is showing a B12 level, and not experiencing any symptoms, than he is okay. I've been raw vegan high fruit for over 5 years, and my B12 levels are fine, as is everything else on me. There are just as many meat eaters as vegans with B12 deficiency becuase B12 deficiency is an issue of assimilation not consumption. If you preform oral sex on either sex you get plenty of animal based B12. Sorry but your argument is based on many fallacies.
