Give it to me Raw

So how bad do you want to be in denial? How much will you grasp to dogma, not facing the truth that we do so much to harm ourselves?

We rarely listen to our bodies, instead we get whisked away by "gurus" or charismatic people who are the farthest thing from those who bare the truth.

Most of these ego-maniacal know-it-alls are full of it. Not sure about that? Want to know how a strict vegan diet can deplete your body of B12? Read about our friend Harley, aka Durianrider.

From http://health.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=695434:
...remember, Harley completely cuts out anything to do with animal products and relies purely on raw fruit, veggies and nuts. His results have got Susie really worried: "My biggest concern is that your vitamin B12 is one of the lowest clinical levels we have ever seen!"
Harley's B12 was just 78. That's drastically lower than the normal intake range from 145 to 637 and means our vegan could be susceptible to anemia, blurry vision and loss of feeling in the hands and feet in the long term. "In the case of vegans, it's really up to them if they decide to supplement with B12. It is primarily from animal-based food so it's probably worth him discussing it with his GP or medical specialist," says Susie.

Still sure that a diet that you NEED to supplement is the best one for humans? Hmm..... it seems that the DR's take on the 80/10/10 is one of the biggest scams. Follow DR to illness if you like, it's your choice.

What do you have to lose, besides your teeth? Oh yes..., poor vision, no feeling in your hands, and anemia. Oh, to dogma!

Whether or not the reference range for B12 is accurate, vegans and people with malabsorption (which is very often caused by candidiasis) are at risk for lower B12 that those who include animal protein. The article posted on this discussion reflects that. While B12 occurs in people of all diets, the more I read, I seem to find mostly death and damage in vegans (or cases of malabsorption), and that vegans do tend to have lower levels that put them at risk for heart disease and pregnancy complications.

Rather than scrutinizing the reference range--since it's very difficult to have too much B12 (you would have to be taking mega doses with vitamins, and even then the science is still not as clear as it is for B12 deficiency dangers through diet alone)--I would look at the actual cases of death, and look at reputable vegan organizations for the "best case scenarios" if you are skeptical about this connection. There is no question that vegans (and those with malabsorption) are at a risk for low (or depending on reference range accuracy, lower) B12 than non-vegans.

True Multisport, this is about LONG TERM health....

When I was 30, I also looked very healthy and had no wrinkle, and it was based on a high crap-diet.

But wat about 20 years later?

Now at 42 years, I still look quite young, but I know I will pay prices if I won't adjust more diet...

Same with 80/10/10, what about doing it for 20 years?

That's why b12 is so important, B12 is a long term message....

Lots of people who have been smoking for 10 years look fine and are active (I have had friends like this). I never let myself forget that in these discussions. Toxins and deficiencies usually take a toll in the long-term. Stuff tends to show up in aging, after time.

I say look to our elders for true examples. Where are the fruitarian centenarians, the vegans?

Edit to my post: "While B12 occurs in people of all diets" should be "While B12 deficiency occurs in people of all diets"

Correct, Hippocrates and Cousins advise ALL people to supplement with B12, also meat-eaters..

Reply to This

That's right. I do include meat eaters. They just seem to have a lower risk with their dietary intake.

Durian Rider raised his B 12 levels after that article, it is well publicised that he consulted doug graham and the low fat 811 corrected the B 12 level. Anne Osbourne who has been fruitarian 17 years also hasn't got a low B 12 level.

Different people experience different things

Exactly, different people experience different things. I am looking at the likelihood for certain deficiencies and risks. I would rather lower my risks.

No one claimed anything is 100%, except Durianrider, who claims "100% success with candidiasis" on 811. Actually, it was Vlad, saying DR and Doug Graham claim it. ;)

Reply to This

I can claim personal success with candidiasis after following a low fat raw vegan diet.

No one is arguing with you ;)

But perhaps you missed the point or did not read what I said? Vlad/DR claims 100% (as in, with everyone).

And I'll add that in his own video he "dismissed" people who told him it didn't work, and I have read several comments posted to that video where people shared that their teeth crumbled.

If you want to share your thoughts on that, that might be a more appropriate reply. :-)

I wasn't arguing. Just adding one more to the list of candida successes with a low fat raw vegan diet. ;)
