Give it to me Raw

So my wife is breastfeeding and I am trying to convince her she doesn't need dairy (mostly milk). She thinks as a women and a breastfeeding women she needs that milk and dairy for calcium (the lie is big enough so she believes it). I am trying to prove to her that raw food would be enough. But I can't find and articles or documentation to back this. Any suggestion you can throw my way would be fantastic. Thanks Thad

Today in a rawfoodcafe, a woman said about the goji-berries which she had eaten, that her milksupply exploded by them.
Maybe an idea..?

Hey Thad you check out some info by Shazzie. She just released a new book about children and raw food and recipes for children. She also has talked a lot about breastfeeding. I don't have a link to her but I know this topic has been a big part of her raw lifestyle.

Do you mean the macro nutrients are similar? or that, literally, there is no difference in nutrient content between raw foods and cooked?

I'm operating under the assumption that cooking degrades some nutrients in various ways.

I just watched these the other day - but maybe it is something that would benefit her to listen to?

Thanks for the reply. She eats a little bit of meat now, but is trying to transition to a raw vegan diet.

Ask your wife where the cow who is supplying the milk gets her calcium from...??? Rawfood is enough for the cow!!!
I am proof you don't need dairy - I breastfed my boys for 4 years (the first a little over a year & the second for 3) & all 3 of us were/are happy & healthy :)

Plus all the hormones that are given the cow...

Cows are given antibiotics mainly. Since they put so many cows together one gets sick and others get sick along with them.

I can understand her confusion, given the beef and dairy industry's marketing power.

The science shows that milk causes osteoporosis, among other diseases. We do need calcium, but we need it from plants. I highly recommend reading The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell. It links animal protein and sometimes specifically milk to most of our typical and life-threatening Western diseases, which are virtually unheard of in cultures where animal products aren't consumed.

I also recommend Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from a Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat. Be prepared to be disgusted and enlightened regarding milk and meat.

Here are some quotes and websites to get you started:

"Countries that use the most cow's milk and its products also have the highest fracture rates and the worst bone health." The China Study
http://www.thechinastudy.com/la-timesarticle.html

"Because dairy products contain substantial amounts of animal protein, drinking milk actually robs the bones of calcium." The China Study
http://www.thechinastudy.com/la-timesarticle.html

few others:
http://www.4.waisays.com/ExcessiveCalcium.htm
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2000/12/001227082125.htm

I hope this helps. I've had doctors ask me, "Where do you get your calcium if you don't drink milk?" Marketing trumps science in the medical profession, apparently.

A food log is a great idea! I hope that you can isolate the cause. They didn't hurt or itch or anything like that, but they didn't look right. At first I thought it was skin cancer or something! I looked up petechiae as Eric recommended in the co...

Yes- they're called petechiae and I've always heard that they are liver-related. They can also be due to anemia and low platelet count. If you also bruise easily, that might be the likely cause. I get them too and they come and go.

Pink Lady Apple, I used to get those. I know exactly what they look like - they are tiny, they can vary in size, they are circular, flat, and very red. They do look like blood blisters, but flat! I stop getting them after I did an extended water...

I really believe that is possible to heal all of the body...regeneration of tissue is not a far fetched concept. There is a case of a man who re-grew a finger, recently! I have to dig to find the article, but I read it on naturalnews.com. Mind you...
