Give it to me Raw

I’m sorry, but has anybody else had enough of the notion that to be healthy and successful on raw foods you need to buy a ton of powders and potions from some super dude on the net who claims to feed himself entirely on a diet of avocados and lettuce? It just doesn’t make any sense. They then sell you the video explaining to you are never able to stay 100% raw and their NEW super powder that will help you even more. …. But it cost an arm and a leg because it’s harvested by monkeys that live in the hidden forests of machu pichu.

Seriously, do they think we are all THAT gullible?

How did the original concept of naturism become so distorted and bastardized by hungry entrepreneur?

Want the secret to staying 100% raw and healthy ….. click here and I’ll give it to you for free! :D

Well, lack of sunlight is one cause of deficiency. As for being able to get the amount of sun we need, I'd say that's a theory.

You seem to have a big problem with supplementation, and the idea in general that we can always get what we need from food alone.

In the meantime, I don't have a problem with people who supplement, or eat animal protein, or who are vegans, or who don't get enough sun. :-)
People also use soap, which washes the Vitamin D that is made on the skin off before it can be absorbed. It takes 48 hours to absorb vitamin D from the skin, so you need to not shower with soap for 48 hours after being in the sun to absorb the maximum vitamin D.

Fortunately eating a very clean diet has reduced my need for soap - less body odor.
The right whole foods are not always available. I have access to wild blueberries, but I'm in the minority. Most people just have access to supermarket fruit, which is more waters and sugars than anything else.

The human species migration to the north was accompanied by increased consumption of D rich animal products. I live pretty far north....you could argue I should move, but that's not happening anytime soon.

And these days scientists are recognizing obesity and other diseases of civilization as a result of deficiency. Homocysteine elevation seen in heart disease is strongly connected with not getting enough folate. Vitamin D and omega/3 deficiency is common in the obese. These are just a few examples. Our SAD diets are rich in calories crappy fats, protein, and sugars, but not much else.

Supplements are not always synthesized from food anyway. They are sometimes synthesized from bacteria.

Why try to make people who take supplements feel like they are doing something wrong? Some of us have bodies damaged by illness and eating badly in the past. We can't all be perfect like you.

Mellifera,

My intention was not to make anybody feel like what they are doing is wrong. My body was damaged and I was ill from my previous lifestyle habits. I can relate to many people on this forum. I am not perfect nor do I want to be. Since I was ill I have been doing better every year that passes. I must be doing something right.

I have friends here who have healed themselves from conventional (not organic) supermarket produce without the use of supplementation. My challenge is hearing people say that they need supplements and there is no other way, when clearly there is. There are people in my home town that tell me they need to take all sorts of supplements and they have access to some of the best produce money can buy.

I don't claim to know everyone's food availability. Heck there could be people on this board who live in places where there is no food other than deer meat.
There could be people who live in caves that say they are Vitamin D deficient and need to order supplements. Why not just leave the cave and get some sun.

I'm all for supplements if there is no other way. Just in most cases, in my experience, there usually is. You just have to find it.

some superfoods are tasty and can spice up a recipe, although there are many more local berries and things that would meet the same purpose. Sometimes it's just fun to try a new flavor or something different.... i don't buy into the fact that they are necessary though.

Can I ask, what is the significance of linking 30BaD? Although I haven't joined, I've been reading topics on that site for a while, and though the majority is (or was) basic advice and community for 811, at the very least it's no different from this website. At its worst, it's an internet equivalent school ground for people to take shots at those that disagree with them.

I wouldn't be saying anything if I hadn't seen a few posts on there earlier today trashing Rawzi and other non-vegans on GitMR. It's sad really, that, from what I've seen, there are about 7 posters from that site and this one that tear down all of the effort and kindness of the others who follow 811. These are people that have a consistently 'holier than thou' attitude towards diet, and instead of choosing to answer questions and respectfully provide information or alternatives in diet openly attack and whittle down what is supposed to be a website for those seeking health into a PETA rally.

Rawzi has always been considerate when it comes to offering advice, as have ALL of the posters here who follow non-vegan diets. I wish the same could be said for those advocating 811.

I'm with you. I mean being raw is easy. How expensive is it for fruits and veggies?! :)

Hey Cindy!
I think your use of the 'best ever' was funny.
I laughed out loud. :)

Since youve gotten alot of crap from others im going to keep this post short, and for the benefit of others; so you dont have to worry about getting a sense of THE truth from a different perspective(because there is no such thing as THE right way to be raw & be healthy, youre either following what works for you or youre not), and you can be however you like, and everyone of us too, will accept that. Everyones doing the best they can with what they have right? Just remember that, its a learning journey & evolution for all of us included.

For everyone else - to understand why we get people making alot of posts like this latley;
http://www.spiraldynamics.com/book/SDreview_Dinan.htm
Someone who's neurology is predominantly developed inside of category 4 (systemic people)(40% of world population, 30% of power) will accuse a category 7 or higher(flexibility/spiritual entreprenuers) (1% of world population, 5% of power) of being a category 5 (self interest/people with yachts & a life that dw doesnt have) (30% of world population, 50% of power).

The world at the moment also is making a shift between 4 & 5.
& Also not to put people in boxes, and to seperate values 'thinking' from values 'behaviour'.
Everyones a little bit of everything..

Very interesting, thanks for that perspective and link. The book seems really cool!

Who cares? If I want to eat a superfood powder, I will eat it.

Stop trying to make me feel guilty Cindy.

You said it, Mike!
What is it that compels some people to preach rather than just leading by example? If what you have to offer is truly of value, those who need it will find you and ask!
