I’m sorry, but has anybody else had enough of the notion that to be healthy and successful on raw foods you need to buy a ton of powders and potions from some super dude on the net who claims to feed himself entirely on a diet of avocados and lettuce? It just doesn’t make any sense. They then sell you the video explaining to you are never able to stay 100% raw and their NEW super powder that will help you even more. …. But it cost an arm and a leg because it’s harvested by monkeys that live in the hidden forests of machu pichu.
Seriously, do they think we are all THAT gullible?
How did the original concept of naturism become so distorted and bastardized by hungry entrepreneur?
Want the secret to staying 100% raw and healthy ….. click here and I’ll give it to you for free! :D
What I like about Doug is that he presents a range of options.
Of course he charges a lot for his undivided attention/time, as would any internationally-known raw leader (eg most people in raw will not have heard of 'Aajonus'). As I'm sure would David Wolfe, Gabriel Coussens, Brian Clements etc charge a lot for their time.
However, he makes it clear (as I saw him make it clear to someone recently who discussed consultations with him) that a consultation with him is not necessary to achieve success on raw.
(eg what put the nail in the coffin for me with a particular raw food guru that I used to be quite a fan of was when he sent marketing blurb saying that it was simply not possible for a raw food diet to supply all our mineral needs and that he knew what it was that could (and yes, guess where we could buy it from?! Not only is it untrue, or, well, let's say, a matter of opinion, but this kind of selling is based on 'fear tactics'.)
Doug does make it clear that to achieve success on 811 the book should be purchased, as, after all, the book contains comprehensive instructions on how to do it! The book is around £20, and most people should be able to raise that money, somehow. If I knew of someone who couldn't afford it, I'd buy it for them, and I'm sure many on high-fruit diets would do similar.
He also gives his time, free of charge, just about every day to his forum. I've noted that anyone asking him a question on that (best way is to preface the thread title with 'Dr D') gets an answer, usually within 24 hours. I think that's quite amazing, very generous, and I cannot think of any other leader of his standing that would do this.
He also answers e-mails sent to him via the foodnsport forum. Again, this is not the case with many luminaries. I can think of two e-mails I sent to 'big names' early on in my raw food journey and not only didn't get an answer - didn't even get an acknowledgement. True, one can say they would have been 'very busy', but obviously so is Dr Doug, but he still seems to manage to answer.
Yes, his retreats are expensive, and too expensive for me, unfortunately. But when someone challenged him on this on his forum last year, he gave a breakdown of costs, which were...staggering - quite an education. He's certainly not getting rich on them.
Furthermore, I have visited Doug's house in the UK, where he lives for three-quarters of the year. It's very modest - I think many people here would be surprised, fondly imagining him to be living in the lap of luxury.
I hope that's cleared a few (perhaps understandable) misconceptions.
It doesn't matter. What matters is the numerous products he's pushing that having nothing to do with fresh produce.
I have nothing against salesmen either as long what they are selling is worth buying. I've personally never bought anything from DG except his book. Whereas Wolfe, it could go on forever.

As if fresh produce is the only thing worthy of sale!
If people want something they'll source it and buy it. Mark says blame the seller. I say buyer beware.
Satisfied customers decide the fate of any sales business. If they like what they buy, they keep buying. It's pointless to lament that a popular seller of a legitimate, legal product is successful selling it.
What a lively discussion and thanks to Cindy for sparking it! I would like to acknowledge all those who have expressed openness and compassion.
I spent the first 36 years of my life eating poison. Now 6 years later, after making my own choices based on what works for MY body, I have found more energy and energetic balance than I've ever felt. Superfoods, especially raw cacao, combined with herbal supplements sped up the process of healing. For those of us who have poisoned our bodies due to ignorance, we now have amazing nutritional technologies to support our efforts to heal ourselves. These technologies help us to realign our energies with ease and grace, and without shocking the system.
This is about healing, and compassion for those who are courageous enough to go against the system of deeply in-grained societal conditioning by pursuing self-healing. David Wolfe has been encouraging those with such an inclination to do so without fear. Why would anyone be persecuting his efforts? Do you think he's some multi-millionaire living in some mansion and using the income he has generated for personal gain? Geez, lighten up on the guy! He is contributing towards the healing of the planet within the confines of capitalism. Some people will resonate with his message or his delivery of that message. Some people will resonate with the message of someone else. Fortunately those who walk this path USUALLY are in tune with an ability to choose what works for them. The lemmings of the world are taking pharmaceuticals. Or pushing their adopted belief systems on others.
Once we have healed ourselves and move to a tropical region, then we can live off simpler foods like fruits, and we wouldn't need many calories either. But until our body is healed, and as long as we continue to add stressful toxins by living in so-called civilization, then we are best served by flooding our body with nutrient-dense easily-absorbed vitamins and minerals found in high-quality superfoods (which aren't supplements btw,,,they are FOODS!)
As for locally grown food, the mineral content varies greatly depending on soil content, growing conditions, and whether the food is wild or cultivated. It is irresponsible to discourage others from experiencing the healing benefits of superfoods and herbs just because they are not grown locally.
One final thought to share, it is important to remember that oftentimes people who adopt a 100% raw diet without having worked to clear emotional blockages, tend to purge these emotions in ways that may come off as self-righteousness and judgmental. This is a process of their healing and we are best served to recognize this healing with compassion. OR it could be the ego boosting and re-defining itself within another dualistic paradigm, ie. us vs. them. Anyone who is making the effort deserves our support. So few even bother.
You can always ask a produce dept. employee at Whole Foods to cut one open so you can try it before you waste your money. It's store policy to let people sample things:)
but just becouse we were tampered with does not mean that we came from microscopic ethers. We had form, body and a brain, simple tampering was neccessary to tame wild beasts that we were then in order to domesticate us..........and to make faithfu...
