so sometimes in social situations i consume things with refined sugar, such as last night, my friend gave me some thai tea with a lot of sugar in it. I feel the negative effects, it makes my stomach swell up and i feel horrible. Even with too much 'natural' high glycemic fruits this happens to me.
is there a way i can kind of balance myself out after this happens or cleanse myself of the sugar and it get it out of my system fast? maybe probiotics will help keep my stomach calm with it?
I find green juice, in particular celery juice, really helps if I overdo it on sugar or on fat. Or if I just overdo it in general. If you add ginger and lemon to the green juice it works even better. Best to you!
hey, out of curiousity, what is it about celery juice that has this effect if you don't mind me asking? I have recently started upping the green juice after overdoing it on fats last month. I feel better but not 100% so I will give celery a shot:-) But I was wondering if there was any technical reason i should know of? Thanks.
I think you're on the right track with probiotics - but in the form of raw sauerkraut or kimchi. These will definitely help and they also cut the cravings some people have for sugary or cooked food or too much of anything that might be eaten in excess.
thank you for your thoughts! i will try some green juice. I love ginger and i also love sauerkraut and kimchi! some thing told me maybe aloe would be beneficial so i added a bunch of aloe and clay to a smoothie this morning and i think that helped.
i really dont care for sugar of any type. i dont eat much fruit anymore. but sometimes its hard to avoid, such as some social situations like last night. i feel it just attacks my stomach. maybe i could have candida??
My opinion is that most people lack the gut flora that would enable them to do well on a diet that is high in sugars, even fruit sugars. There are so many influences that disrupt our intestinal flora - that it's tricky even if we were lucky enough to be born with good gut flora (many babies are not since it's largely inherited from the Mom). And once the necessary floras are wiped out and pathogenic varieties take hold (including things like candida), it can be very difficult to reestablish the full range of flora we need. Eating ferments regularly and also prebiotic foods, can really help - it's helped me a great deal.
Aloe is awesome. Bitter foods and herbs (which have medicinal properties) will also balance sugars. Keeping a balance among all the tastes - sour, bitter, sweet, spicy and salty - makes it relatively easy to avoid the temptation to excess :)
fortunately im not tempted to consume sugar really because i know how it will make me feel, but in the case of last night, i was given food and drink from a friend that they really wanted me to have. I often turn down food but sometimes feel bad or rude for turning down food offered to me from friends/family.
i definitely agree refined sugar is not meant for us! i can tell from my stomach! the only sweet fruit i still consume is goji berries in moderation.
definitely my gut probably doesnt have the most ideal flora due to my upbringing of grains and sugars. I definitely am going to experiment with more bitter foods/herbs, aloe, and ferments.
is there any good probiotic supplements you can recommend, and are they worth it? or should i just stick to getting probiotics from fermented foods? thanks for your thoughts!
Whatever probiotic you choose, after you finish a bottle, try another one with different colonies. It's good to rotate and get different bacteria strains in the gut :)
i react badly to all sugar, even fruit sugar! i don't believe 811 is natural. i couldnt eat locally on 811, not that much fruit around here for that! ive tried high fruit and did not feel well. im trying to get away from sugar! bananas really mess me up. thanks for the input though.
OK, sure, it's easy to eat local fruit in Australia and Thailand. But in most of the Northern hemisphere, fruit is seasonal. So are greens. According to Durianrider, everyone living in the Northern Hemisphere is a fraking idiot and will die a horrible untimely death from lack of fruit sugar.
im not convinced eating 70 bananas a day is healthy at all. i would be bloated like crazy. too much sugar!!!!
if i were to go out into the wilderness where i live i would be lucky to find a lot of berries!
i am fueled by vegetables, nuts, seeds, greens, herbs, some animal product, and a little fruit. this makes me feel best. its when i get too much sugar i feel bloated and less than ideal.
im confused. matt monarch swears by regular colonic hydrotherapy. its his no.1 raw tip, didn't think it could be dangerous but now it kind of makes sense. enemas seem much more natural in comparison.
I've heard great, great things about Living Light Culinary Arts Institute in Fort Bragg, CA. I know that isn't really in the Los Angeles area, but it's still in CA and I believe they provide students the option to stay in their 'Living Light Inn'....
The way I see it is that generally people who label themselves are confident of the path they have chosen while, also generally, people don't don't label aren't quite as sure if what they're following is the right way to go.
