Give it to me Raw

OMG so i have gone 100% raw well okay so 100% minus the fact I cant stop the craving and the temptation and the actual GOING TO Starbucks for my mocha or gingerbread latte or whatever....Is this going to totally ruin the whole raw thing? If i have 1 a day but eat totally RAW for everything else will I still loose weight? Anyone have a magic pill that will keep me away from Starbucks... i swear they must put crack in their coffee lol....

They DO put crack in their coffee. Bastards. I'm pretty sure that I personally put at least 4 Starbucks children through college. I quit by making my coffee at home with a creamer I really like. It got me out of the habit of driving over there blah blah and I've noticed a big difference.

I was like you just last May 2008. I was hooked on coffee... for me it wasn't just a caffeine addiction it was a social issue too. When I went raw I didn't immediately assume I would give up coffee. I was getting so much energy from going raw that by drinking coffee I couldn't sleep at night. My brain was buzzing and I couldn't get it to stop. It sure did when I stopped coffee. It was very hard too. Especially the first 4-5 days. I felt like I couldn't think quickly or clearly but I stuck it out. Now I sleep much better and wake up more refreshed. I now use almond milk with raw cocao periodically. If you haven't tried it.. its worth a try. Over time the craving for it has gotten better. Good luck..

Ditch those fattening sugar-laden Starbucks drinks. If you're gonna have that many calories, you might as well just have them in a meal instead. Maybe you just associate the act of going to Starbucks and it's warm toasty ambience with wanting your frappacinomochacholitacheeto. Just get a hot tea instead. It fulfills the same conditioned response because really thats all it is.

I second that. Make yerba matte your friend.

Stay strong and stay motivated. I'm so very happy you are doing what you're doing. Keep going! Don't worry over time, your cravings will diminish. I used to crave chocolate chip cookies like nobody's business. Now I wouldn't eat one if you paid me. Don't give up! :)

Blood sugar imbalance is the number 1 cause of caffiene addiction. Sort that out and you wont need caffiene. Make sure you are eating enough calories. Use an online program for a couple of days like cronometer or nutritiondata.com to work this out. Avoid refined sugars like syrups (honey, agave, maple), juices (fruit and root vegetables). I would avoid dried fruits too personally as these can imbalance blood sugar levels. If it helps, eat small regular meals to get enough calories in. Keep your fat intake low and focus on fresh whole fruits for carbs. Excess fat blocks insulin recptors, which can prevent sugar leaving the cells, causing a cortisol/adrenaline spike which will further imbalance blood sugar levels later on.

Take care

Ami I know how you feel, Starbucks was the last thing to go for me as well....For me it was a combination of things. I think they really do know what they are doing when louring people into their shops, it's all so cleverly thought out from the yummy and veeerrry addictive products to the ambient. I actually made a point once towards the end to sit in there and to identify all the different elements that make it such a nice experience and wrote them down. So I could realize even more just how much marketing has gone into those places....From the color scheme to the well chosen music to the carpet placed just round the comfy seating etc......And there is loads of space!! I'm sure the U.S. has loads of that around but here in the UK it's hard to find spacious cafes where you can bring a big buggy and two small kids and don't feel like an inconvenience.
It's definitely an emotional attachment I would say, it makes you feel good to spend time there so every time you want a pick up you associate the place with making you feel better.
Find something else to give you the same comfort factor, invent a new treat for yourself that is healthy but works and use that instead. And drink (or eat) it in a lovely and peaceful environment like a nice park on a sunny day or something.
Bring an I pod with jazz music....;D

I make raw chocolate milkshakes now for comfort drinks if I fancy them, blend pure water with two bananas, some shelled hemp seeds, raw cacao powder and some natural sweetener....depending how sweet or thick you like it ad more or less ingredients. It's still a bit naughty for me since I'm heading towards low fat raw but it works to satisfy my coffee cravings so there.....:)

I stopped going there a few years ago, even though I ate SAD and drank coffee, after noticing all of the clever marketing. I don't mind it but it honestly is sad to see a line of unknowing crackheads frothing at the mouth in an orderly line selfishly awaiting their hit of crack while blindly enforcing all that is wrong in the world today.

Larabars are 100% raw (well, most of them) and they're really good. Think Organic bars are raw and organic. You'll get twice the Larabar for less money, but they're both really good.

Please share your easy desserts. I've finally gone 100% raw, but I'm having a hard time staying way from candy... (I haven't caved yet) I'm looking for desserts that don't need nuts as I'd like to eat them after dinner. Thanks!
