Give it to me Raw

Hello all

I would like to hear from anyone with knowledge or experience of TCM who can comment on the relationship between spleen deficiency and the raw food diet.

Is TCM unsuited to analysing the effects of raw food on the body when the diet is predominantly or completely comprised of raw food?

Do common patterns of raw food eating contain elements that outweigh any negative impact of raw food on the TCM 'spleen'?

Is increased sensitivity to food and attraction to principles of food combining with increasing time on a raw food diet actually a sign of a weakened TCM 'spleen'?

Has anyone here combined raw food with TCM and observed the effects?

Any other opinions, experiences or views with TCM or other relevant diagnostic testing that could provide clues?

Is it all just hokum?

I would be fascinated to hear your views.

Thanks all

I used to not relate to TCM until I started studying it, LOL!
My comment on TCM vs.raw food is this:
although I used to assume that TCM dietary principles were based in Chinese cultural dietary bias, after begining Medical Qigong study, I see now that TCM principles are based in Daoist energetic observation.
Simply put, they figured out when you eat this, the pulse and energy field and organs respond like that. They were able to observe the effects of a given substance on teh whole person.
That is why I pay attention to TCM dietary principles.
Plus, I've seen it in action in myself. I've seen how eating different things affects my yin and yang, and my different organs. I know how to look at my tongue and get an idea of what's going on;)

YogaB- I KNOW you're into energetic principle, so what makes you think food doesn't follow the same principles as the rest of nature?? Dao smackdown, LOL!

After about 1.5 years of raw eating (including nuts and avos and oils daily) I started getting urinary tract infections/bladder infections nonstop for about 6 months. It was sooo painful and i was very frustrated because i thought i was doing everything 'right"...i went to a TCM practitioner who told me i had deficient spleen qi and put me on some tonics/herbs with special meditations. He also suggested that i eat some warming grains like buckwheat and amaranth but i told him i was not willing to give up raw so he suggested i add cinnamon and other warming spices to things...well another 4 months passed and i only saw minor improvements. i decided to try low fat raw veganism (i.e. 801010) and experienced an almost immediate lift in my symptoms! i've been lfrv for about 5 months now and have had no uti's or even a feeling of weakness there. i think, in my case, i was eating too much plant fat for my bod to handle...hope this has been helpful.
good luck, sugar :)

Thanks for your comments CheL,

That is really interesting. Have you seen the TCM practitioner since starting 811? Or know anyone else who has? I am really interested in the effects of 811 on the body.

I went to see a TCM naturopath in June, having been 811 since February. My results were quite startling; but I didn't take her words for gospel until about a month ago. She told me that my blood sugar was all over the place, hence my highs and lows. I had an immediate positive reaction to candida and was told I had leaky gut and severe problems with my digestion. She noted that I had a sluggish pancreas (I hadn't told her I had pancreatitis in 2006) I had been on a fruit/ some greens diet for nearly six months when I got these results. Recently I took a hard look at my diet, after seeing a dermatologist - one look at me and she coud tell I just ate fruit!!! Scary. I don't consume any sweet fruits, just berries, figs and other sub acids. I added fat back into my diet and felt better/nourished almost instantly.
