Give it to me Raw

Hey rawistssssss,

When I come on here, I read about alot of people doing Juice fasts and feeling soooo energetic and amazing, and flat stomached, and just so vibrant.

I dont have a juicer, and cant afford one (Benefits of being a student) BUttttt to be honest, I actually prefer smoothies a kajillion times more. I chuck a whole heap of fruit and spinich in a blender, then sip away at that, and they genuinely taste amazing, buttttttttt is it going to give me the same benefits that juice does? Because Smoothies have all the fibre huh. But I seem to be lacking energy in a massive way, sleeping like no tomorrow, etc, so I'm wandering.....do smoothies not have as higher benefits on the body as juices do?

from what i know, smoothies > juice.

it's all about the fibre. victoria boutenko has a chapter in 'green for life' where she describes it as the 'magic sponge' because it can absorb several times more than its 'body weight' in the amount of volume of toxins, which it expells out.

so, if we're detoxing and cleansing, fibre certainly helps to get rid of the toxins.

that said, i've never done a juice feast before -- just a big green smoothie drinker.

I would say green smoothies.

1. You are a poor student, why throw out appetite suppressing fiber?
2. Fiber is very good for you and necessary. It also regulates the sugar absorption throughout the day as opposed to a big jolt from juice.
3. If you are lacking energy, add more fruit and bigger darker greens to your green smoothies. Maybe grow some sprouts and add those little living jokers to your food. Ever drink or grow and drink wheatgrass juice?

I could attain my perfect health situation I believe using either or both, its not a matter of what is right and/or wrong, its continued self-nourishment and self-love that will give you the long-term health situation you naturally seek as a human being. Tap out of society long enough to be able to determine what is bullshit and what is real and you will be worlds ahead of your fellow students. Just like a plant, which starts as a seed needing germinated (woke up /educated), then goes through the growth stages (healing & re-building) before finally blossoming and bearing fruit - Life and truth follow a circle that is continuous throughout everything.

Peace

Not really, I was and started getting hypoglycemic a little bit I think. I would get dizzy after I ate my pile of sugar, so I've cut back to smoothie for breakfast after wheatgrass juice, more smoothie and some fruit maybe for lunch and a snack time of flax crackers, onion bread, or nacho chips with some seed cheese or something and veggies dipped in something, and for dinner I do that again or have a salad with a half avocado dressing. So I kind of am 811 only I eat fat at lunch and during the day, eat seaweed, eat nama shoyu, eat dehydrated food, eat cacao sometimes (in desserts I make), and eat herbs too.

So no, not really : )

jason, were you eating fat with your 'pile of sugar', or right before? Even if you had a late night fatty meal, and the next morning had only sweet fruit, it could still have been affecting your system.

I think it's really a matter of personal preference and what makes you feel better. I use both on a daily basis and I find they both help me out. If I stick to just green smoothies or just juices I don't feel great.

You say that you're seriously lacking energy which would be the only thing to take a look at. What does your diet look like in addition to the smoothies? Are you just transitioning to this sort of diet? There are many reasons your energy can be low but it's important to try and figure out where this is coming from. That way you can make sure you are following an optimal diet for your body.

juice hands down.

truth generally has alot of assumptions

fiber from plants is mostly undigestible especially the darker greens. and can cause slowing of transit and fermentation with fruits.

just my opinion.

Fiber is all indigestible. It doesn't need to be digested. It's not a calorie source.

Fiber in fruits causing fermentation? Can you cite a source? That doesn't make any sense to me; why would a banana be designed to digest poorly with it's own fiber?
