Give it to me Raw

Chris Burt

Seemingly, possibly, maybe, it just might, there's and outside chance that this is contradictary to 811.

Something that has been bothering me about 811 is this.

811 says we should eat like our primate cousins eat because that’s the way our ancestors ate. Fair enough I can’t argue with that. But why does 811 only work if we exercise and why do 811’ers use physical stamina to try to prove a point that 811 is the only diet worth considering.
Chimps and gorillas don’t go cycling for 50 miles. OK, only joking about that, but they don’t go running for 20 miles to get in shape. Surely our ancestors, if they weren’t out hunting, and 811 says they weren’t, wouldn’t need physical stamina to go out collecting fruit and greens. They certainly wouldn’t be out marathon running just to keep fit and leave their family exposed to danger any longer than they needed to. They would need to be in reasonable shape to protect themselves and their families but if you were being attacked by a lion, for example, and you were on your own, you wouldn’t have to run 26 miles to get away from it! If you were with your family you wouldn’t run at all, you would have to stay and fight.
What advantage could there be in nature to be able to run 26 miles? I don’t think any animal would chase you anywhere near that distance. Another pre Olympic athlete perhaps? I doubt it.
I don’t think it was survival of the fittest, more like survival of the strongest and cleverest.
Doesn’t all that physical stress age us and shorten our lives? In a previous thread about the longest lived people in the world, I didn’t notice any ex -athletes in the list.

I am genuinely just curious and this is not a criticism of anyone or the 811 diet.
Just in case anyone didn't read that last line or misunderstood it.

I dont think too much sugar of any kind is that good for the body in the long run..ha ha no pun intended.
..and if you look at the chinese who do Qigong ..they dont believe in running or monkeying about like mad western folk..and live to a ripe old age! And look at the Indian yogis...who again dont run about..a lot..and have food in moderation ..altho not raw fooders..shame...just think what they could do if they did eat raw...maybe they could walk on their hands instead of their feet ha ha(:

the creatures you mention are, arguably, living their natural plans. if natural / original is the goal, are you confident humans are natural ultra endurance athletes? how much sustained cardio is natural and when does it become destructive due to oxidative cell damage (accelerated aging)?

no one is arguing that "movement" isn't important and that modern humans aren't falling short on sufficient exercise ..but your level of output is unusual and some wonder if it is really advisable and relevant to all humans.

Thanks for participating Harley. As usual your observations of nature are impressive. You say 'we aint chimps, we are humans. i dont walk around in nature with chimp eyes, i see my reality via human eyes. just as a chimp doesnt see the world thru human eyes. yes they have like 98.8% same genetic make up but it aint 100%.'

OK so then we are to ignore comparisons to other animals. Right. So that leaves Tsunamis ( I can't see the relevance of the Chi Masters and yogis to the current thread).

Do you have any data on the frequency of Tsunamis throughout history and the effect that would have on human development. Are there any cases of humans training for Tsunamis and did they think it necessary to run 26 miles?

Thanks DR I was thinking along very similar lines and was going to contribute my thoughts, but to be honest the energy of this thread has turned me off.
I feel no need to argue any point as I still have a lot to learn and keeping my mind wide open and not getting involved in ego battles for me is crucial for that.

Oh lovely people, Peace is more than just a nice sounding word, it starts not with world governments but with each and every one of us.

Raw not War.....my new favorite catch phrase.....;D

Hey Harley, a Tsunami travels at well over 500 mph and often there is no advance warning. If you can outrun a Tsunami then I'm convinced 811 is for me!

interesting! i ve heard stories about raw paleo folks too..and about their health improving for them much better than being raw vegan...BUT
really it comes down to the individual does it not!? Some do well on carbs like mr super fit and some do well on protein... and some on smoothies....as you can see...i seem to do well on green smoothies with raw hemp powder and a little avocado...... and me yoga on daily basis OM (:

durianrider,

do you consider yourself an example of the ideal human activity level? should everyone burn your calories and seek to match your heart rate? is there a risk or negative aspect to this level of exercise?

if you are so confident why not skip the commentary / parable on what your day was like and just be exacting and pertinent to these legitimate questions? if you answer them skillfully and succinctly....you may actually help some people to embrace your methods.

I'm interested because you seem to brag about your accomplishments and portray them as necessary to optimum health and vitality. Why not just take a minute to answer these specific questions instead of going off on a tangent with a story that's only loosely related?
