Give it to me Raw

Chris Burt

Seemingly, possibly, maybe, it just might, there's and outside chance that this is contradictary to 811.

Something that has been bothering me about 811 is this.

811 says we should eat like our primate cousins eat because that’s the way our ancestors ate. Fair enough I can’t argue with that. But why does 811 only work if we exercise and why do 811’ers use physical stamina to try to prove a point that 811 is the only diet worth considering.
Chimps and gorillas don’t go cycling for 50 miles. OK, only joking about that, but they don’t go running for 20 miles to get in shape. Surely our ancestors, if they weren’t out hunting, and 811 says they weren’t, wouldn’t need physical stamina to go out collecting fruit and greens. They certainly wouldn’t be out marathon running just to keep fit and leave their family exposed to danger any longer than they needed to. They would need to be in reasonable shape to protect themselves and their families but if you were being attacked by a lion, for example, and you were on your own, you wouldn’t have to run 26 miles to get away from it! If you were with your family you wouldn’t run at all, you would have to stay and fight.
What advantage could there be in nature to be able to run 26 miles? I don’t think any animal would chase you anywhere near that distance. Another pre Olympic athlete perhaps? I doubt it.
I don’t think it was survival of the fittest, more like survival of the strongest and cleverest.
Doesn’t all that physical stress age us and shorten our lives? In a previous thread about the longest lived people in the world, I didn’t notice any ex -athletes in the list.

I am genuinely just curious and this is not a criticism of anyone or the 811 diet.
Just in case anyone didn't read that last line or misunderstood it.

yep...oxidation damage (ie: accelerated cell aging) is increased by sustained cardio load....right?

what is true fitness? is there a standard that fits everyone? maybe it's more about "whole-ness" not cardio supremacy.....

Hey Chris- I've wondered about that, too. I've noticed that all my old customers who were long time runners and marathoners were prematurely aged looking. I wondered about the oxidative stress on their bodies.

I found this forum discussion and it had some interesting stuff in it:

I love it cause it is an intense workout over a short period of time. My son had a "jump rope for heart" week at school that got me into it. It uses different muscles than running and also improves coordination a lot, and I was surprised how well ...

Survivorman is crazier, did you see that episode in the desert when he started talking to birds? But I still like Grylls better overall. I feel like there is more of a point in watching the show, you feel like you're learning something, lots of tr...

That's a pretty typical scene in a high fruit household. That an a ton of bananas. My dryer next to the washer has stacks of fruit carts on it. :)

Right--it's good in smoothies too. It's a necessity when there's no fruit in there!

In water with a twist of lemon or lime, in teas, in water (with flavored stevia), and with millet or quinoa.

Hi Lizz, I haven't tried yacon; I think it's still too sweet, technically. I believe stevia is truly the only natural sweetener that is not a form of sugar. When I add vanilla flavor and a little coconut oil to the stevia, it's kind of like maple...
