Give it to me Raw

Now before I start I am not against 811 and have been aspiring to 100% 811 for 5 months now and I find it a cheap, convenient and energy giving diet.

I have just finished reading Dr Edward Howell's Enzyme Nutrition. In it he talks about Eskimos. Incidentally the word Eskimo derives from an American Indian language and means 'He who eats it raw'
So I guess we are all Eskimos.

When referring to Eskimos he means Eskimos that have not been tainted with western food habits.I don't know if there are any of those left but apparently there was in the first half of the 20th century.

Eskimos eat an incredible amount of fat from raw meat, fish and seal and whale blubber, which is just fat, seemingly no fruit and very little vegetables. Yet they are able to canoe for 12-16 hours for days on end. They seem to live to an old age and there is virtually no instance of cardiovascular disease. It seems by not eating the killed animal right away but by allowing the animals own enzymes to pre digest it's own carcase then the fat does not clog the arteries. There are(or were) very few Eskimos who were overweight despite their high fat diet.

So fellow Eskimos, how does that fit in with the 811rv principles?

Have you read the book Finnegan? There are lots of references and first hand accounts of them eating only Raw food. If they had boiled the food then that would defeat his own argument about enzymes. Strange that you think there is nothing to be discussed. I am not saying we should all go and eat like 19th century Inuits but the 811 fundamendalists claim there is no other way than 811. Well here it seems is a seemingly opposite way to 811 so surely that opens up possibilities that there are other ways and I for one would like to know if there are.

It's the same like christians say it's there way, and muslims say it's their way etc..
I hope we can finaly stop with this truth-proclamations.

I rather here people say they don't know anything.., much less dangerous if you look to history.

ah, yes.... very good point.

I love to remind myself how little I actually know! When I see truly closed minds and those who claim to have all the answers, I listen...nod....smile....and say: "yes...yes...you got it....ok....right...." (then I make a mental note to: #1 never take serious advice from them and #2 investigate the possibly of doing the exact opposite of what they claim the be "the truth")

wonderful observation Lightlover....thanks for reminding me of that

Haha, that's exactly what I do!
hey--this will probably ruffle a few feathers, but in the teleinterviews by Dr Tel Oren (raw dr. who runs ecopolitan) that were on last week, he emphasized that cooking does not kill enzymes. it does alot of other things to food, and affects the nutrient content, but seemed to indicate that the damage done to enzymes by cooking was nearly negligible...that this idea of the enzymes being destroyed is something heavily emphasized by raw fooders, but that it in fact is not really the case...

oops..this was in response to chris burts post not lightlovers, but i cant figure out how to get it up there...sorry

Kaybee, Dr Howell has been studying this subject for about 75 years and he says cooking destroys enzymes. Who are we to believe?

Reply to This

I believe experts who study enzymes. Enzymes are precisely constructed to perform the chemical reactions of the organism that created them. Each enzyme requires specific environmental conditions, and the presence of particular amounts of vitamins and other co factors.

The idea that they promote digestion in another species and then go on to perform some useful biological purpose has no merit.
Enzymes are just proteins, so they can't be killed anymore than a diamond. Heat does denature proteins though, tha's why enzymes won't survive cooking.

Where is the research on enzymes that survive cooking?

Finnegan, I have only just read the book and he makes what I think are interesting points. So I started this thread to get others opinions. I didn't say I agreed with it or disagreed with it. But since you ask he cites at least 10 people who lived with the Inuits in the early 20th century. One of which lived with them for 20 years.
