What about people who bring a fruit like a pineapple to a pot luck, while some are spending hours in their kitchen fixing fanciful, gourmet offerings to their esteemed fellow raw food icons? Is it fair for the culinary artists? Is the segregation between the different types of raw foodists (fruits, greens, gourmet, superfoods, alkalarian, etc.) becoming so extreme that we are no longer able to satisfy each others needs? How may, if possible, different meetup be organized to facilitate the needs each of the different classifications?
Which group do you belong to?
Fruits:
Greens:
Gourmet:
Superfoods:
Alkaline:
If there is another personalized diet that you may be following that isn't listed above, please explain.
Any comments as to how to facilitate raw vegan meetups to meet every groups needs is appreciated. Perhaps a meetup should be organized for each groups' needs or meetups should continue to include all groups while attendees are requested to bring something to satisfy everyone.
Try putting together a raw food discussion event. There everyone can argue over their own theories and what they believe and what works for them. Soon people get offended that others reject their beliefs that were dug up from deep within their hearts. The attendees begin to dwindle and soon enough all raw food discussion events are canceled. That was my experience at least.
I think that most of the time those that bring the simple items (i.e pineapple, berries) are new to raw foods, and like Ian mentioned, they may not feel comfortable making a gourmet raw dish as it may not come out tasting great.
I enjoy spending time/effort on my dish for a pot luck. I know that it will be enjoyed by those who appreciate the love that went into making a great tasting dish. I also enjoy bringing knowledge to others about the dish, the benefits of it, and so-forth. It makes me feel really good to know that something I made has nourished the souls of many, and even better that they appreciate it.
Good point. Most people attending the pot lucks are newbies and may not have the equipment and know how to prepare the fancy gourmet foods. They are generally looking to learn and meet new people, which is a good thing.

I get more peeved by the person that brings the pineapple and then goes and eats all the complicated gourmet dishes, that just seems lazy/cheap rather than catering to their own dietary needs; admittedly my projection of lazy/cheap, they might not be lazy/cheap. Mr Gourmet that got peeved that Mr Pineapple didn't eat his gourmet dish, actually sounds like he wasn't complaining that Mr Pineapple didn't eat his dish, sounds like he was complaining that there wasn't enough variety of high quality gourmet dishes for him to consider it worth his while attending, he was peeved that other people there were not up to his level, they were lazy/cheap/not skilled enough/etc. Mr Pineapple was just the most obvious example to point out, if he really thought about it, it was all the dishes he thought were sub-standard that were annoying him.
Mr Gourmet had unrealistic expectations that a potluck will provide lots of dishes of similar quality, they usually don't, that's why 'luck' is in potluck, it's luck if everything is to your taste/standards.
there is a point where it becomes dogma - religion - and then you run into some quandaries.
for example - if a fruitarian refuses on principle to eat non-fruits - even once - then it's become almost arbitrarily dogmatic. then you need to strictly delineate - fruitarian potlucks.
but if you have people who subscribe to different sub theories but who are willing to still step outside of those lines to experience new things and new people - then that potluck sounds like a good time.
No wonder i've had bad feelings about going to potlucks here in Houston. 1. i dont know what to prepare 2. people will probably not enjoy it because its simple.......
thanks guys for putting the 'you were right' stamp on my fears.
Nah, I love simple stuff! I love gourmet stuff too.
If you bring it in the spirit of sharing then it should be enough. Come to a raw potluck in Melbourne Australia, we don't seem to have this weird ass problem here!
You do what you Whoraw, stuff what the crackpots say! ;) *hugs*
The best way to prevent a cold are to eat foods that are minimally toxic. That means eating mostly fruits and vegetables. Organic if possible. Raw. Fresh.
What also helps is getting plenty of rest and sleep. As much as you need.
