Give it to me Raw

Raw food is not always easier on the body or more cleansing than cooked foods

No, I'm not trying to cause trouble here. This just caught my eye on Twitter and I wonder what everyone thinks about this perspective.

just a snip >>>

"Raw food is not always easier on the body or more cleansing than cooked foods. This is really important because we see people shun a steamed vegetable, but they go to town on raw ice cream. Steamed asparagus is always going to be easier to digest and eliminate than heavy nut desserts like raw ice cream. What makes raw ice cream better than traditional ice cream is that it’s vegan, raw and less refined. (Now don’t take this the wrong way, I love raw ice cream!) I bring this up simply to put things in perspective.

“But what about the enzymes lost in the steaming process?!?!” – Yo chill… It’s minimal. We lose more enzymes stressing out about the enzymes. Steamed veggies are the easiest on the body, but for many people baked yams or squash and sometimes whole grains are extremely cleansing during their transition. Remember, there are 3 things that make a food healthy."

This is what I drew from it too.

He compares the raw ice cream to the steamed vegetables because there are some who choose to live on raw ice cream but this doesn't mean its healthier for you or easier on your body than a diet of steamed veggies.

I think you get junk food eaters in whichever diet you come under whether raw or not - just as you have those who try to eat healthy.

There are those cooked food eaters who eat lightly and don't put lots of burden on their body but there are also those who choose to just eat crap all day. This is the same in the raw food world.

Actually mild cooking / steaming with ayurvedic principles make it easier to digest enzymes, especially for your digestive system.

Raw is not perfect.

yeah but ayurvedic principles aren't necessarily all right. i think some of it as a bit bull. i was told not to eat fruit ect and raw foods makes people to "cold and damp" but thats so not the case for me. my body knows and tells me raw is best.

First & last principle of Ayurveda. Follow your intution & discover your own path.

Your body & mind need to find your space free from all rules / dogma. Be it Ayurveda or some practitioner itself.

Raw words big time in going to the Yogic diet. Doesnt work well for everyone long term.

PS: All depends on ur unique body constitution.

For my type: Pitta - Its awesome.
My my sister: Vata - Its bad. She always has cold hands & is super skinny.

Yes I was thinking a lot of pitta people get around more, explore more, etc. When I was at this rawfood program most recently there were a lot of us who were pitta. Do you think it makes someone more likely to travel?

one of my best friends feels this way about foods. Bottom line for me personally is, the more alive the food, the more life you're putting in your system, the more alive you'll be.

i dislike steamed foods even for the taste. raw food tastes so much better. yeah probably true steamed vegetables are better than alot of nuts and heavy foods overall but still i just find steamed foods even to be so dead compared to raw ones. minerals pour out when you steam foods as well.

Would you agree that light steaming retains much more minerals than boiling food in water? I'm asking because you say "minerals pour out when you steam foods as well....." I always thought that steaming looses much less than when the water is actually surrounding the food and directly connected to it (as in boiling).

What's your experience, Tele? Take dig enzymes? Keep learnin', thanks for sharin', and lovin'.

Actually I eat some cooked food and I don't take digestive enzymes much at all. Even when cooked, I eat most foods with as little processing and seasoning as possible.

I only post these things because they make us think about what we do and why. I think we should always consider new and/or conflicting information and use it to either re-affirm our choices or introduce us to something new and possibly beneficial.

Thanks YB....

Unfortunately, my dogs were microchipped before I got them. I haven't decided what to do about it yet. Really don't want them to have surgery to take them out.
