So i'm sure the vast majority of people on here probably work (or have worked) in the corporate environment and get some strange comments about their food choices. How do you respond to co-workers who constantly say thing's like "oh you must be on a special diet", or "are you a rabbit always eating salad" ,etc... Does it eventually get to you?
I'd love to hear people's stories about their co-workers giving them a hard time about raw food while most of them live off microwave dinner's/mcdonalds/canned food...
Lol, "where can I get an enema and colon cleansing kit". Wow, that must of been great hearing that.
I'm pretty used to hearing all kinds of strange comments and I don't take it seriously, but I do get tired when people confront me about it. This day in age a bowl of kale salad get's more comment's than someone eating 2 big macs with a coke. Go figure, where did we go wrong as a supposedly "advanced" society.
I agree with Emily, at first people will comment and some of it may be derisive. After they get used to it, they will get more interested or disinterested. They'll either be more receptive or stop commenting. It doesn't hurt that in summer, I eat in the park every day :). Winter is always close quarters.
I forgot to mention my office is right above a mcdonalds. Perhaps that isn't helping a lot of the people I work with since
the value menu seems to be a hit! ;)

Being a raw omnivore, I'm not shy about eating raw meat at work, gotten some stares here and there. Just used this as an opportunity to tell others about my diet, if they're open minded.
Actually i'm curious about that, I don't think i've ever seen anyone eat raw meat (besides, a somewhat rare steak). I'm assuming you only eat raw beef with some marinade on it ?
yup its definitely annoying....but i think it was more of right off the bat you're pegged as the one who eats really weird and then they look at you like a weirdo without questioning . This makes you excluded and such. But i found some people who were interested and knew about spirulina/juicing ect. I don't mind people asking about my diet, in fact i like it....but it's the way they ask like "ohhh what is that" like it's a big novelty i'm eating a fucking salad.
the worst is "oh you must be one of those health freaks"....and in my head i'm thinking ...and that makes you?
Another thing that bugs me is when people talk about being fat...and i'm thinking well yah you are and look what your eating. They also talk about nutrition but from a "brainwashed" perspective....like oh you need a multivitamin ect. ect.
It's whatever though, I've always been the weirdo.
Mine isn't so much a problem in the workplace (as my husband and I are self-employed... we teach piano and are landlords so we eat on our own not around co-workers), but it's more of family gatherings and hearing the comments of some of my family members. I became a vegetarian last May and my mom still asks me, "where do you get your protein?" which I find amusing. It was kind of funny... on Christmas Eve, my family had spaghetti with meatballs (at this point, I was vegetarian but not raw) and they forgot and put some meatballs on my plate. So I had to gracefully get the meatballs onto my sister's plate without dropping it on the table!!!
Now that I am doing my best to be as close to 100% raw as possible (since January 1st), I was really nervous about a recent family gathering, but I did great! (Just told them ahead of time that I would be having fruit salad). My dad actually started asking, "What can you make raw for breakfast? for lunch? for dinner?" and nobody really bothered me, except my sister said, "can't you just have the vegetarian lasagna for Mom's birthday party?" But my hubby came to my rescue and said, "Don't tempt her!" It is funny how we can feel so strange sitting around a table with people when we are eating something different than what they are eating...

yeah i get some crazy looks sometimes even though i live in liberal seattle and with work with many vegetarians. the ones i see regularly don't mind me but i did get called a rabbit the other day. i just shrug it off. i think she's jealous because with my raw diet i lost more weight than on her 9-day plan diet (no idea what it was).
I'll go a step further and say the vast majority of people don't seem to know what 'eating healthy' actually is. Last week I was being asked why I wasn't eating the free subway that was being offered, it's a pretty healthy choice right. I just smiled and replied "I brought my lunch to work, but thank you anyway".
I can't say I was any different a few years ago, before I really started taking a close look at how food was grown and produced. I do try to offer advice when asked though and suggest quality food choices :)
I just spent a week in Vegas at the AVN convention/awards. Sunny Lane asked if I wanted one of her energy bars, and I pulled my banana out of my purse and said, "Got my energy bar right here, but thanks!"
