I have a meeting tomorrow at Columbus Circle and was hoping to get a bite on my way back to the train station. All of the raw restaurants I know are much further downtown.
Does anyone know if there are any in mid-town? I don't need a full meal, a fresh juice and a snack would be fine. I guess I can always go down to the East Village, it would just be easier if I don't have to go too far out of my way.
I believe that the whole foods right there in the CC mall has a small selection of raw snacks. Or you could just pick up some yummy organic produce from them.
I have some problems with Whole Foods, namely their ridiculous markups and their questionable marketing and business practices. Fortunately I belong to a coop so I can get organic, local produce at reasonable prices and I don't have to deal with Whole Foods.
I'm not familiar with Westerley's prices, but Whole Foods will often mark produce up to 50% over suggested retail price. At my coop we mark everything up to 30% over wholesale, which is less than suggested retail. If something costs $1 wholesale at the coop we would charge $1.30 for it, Whole Foods might well charge $2.00 or more.
The problem I have with their marketing is that they basically sell stuff by appealing to people's ethics. You go to Whole Foods and you see the sign about "Tom the Apple Farmer" down the road right next to apples that were actually shipped from Costa Rica.
It boils down to the fact that Whole Foods is basically a corporation and their goal is to make a profit. A quick Google yields the following:
I volunteered at a festival this weekend and despite the weather had a great time, however there was little to no raw food available for the volunteers and barely any vegan food so I seriously need to cleanse if I want to recover.
