There is a "real reason" why a lot of the sports & fitness community feel the need for
eggs, meat, fish etc.
For a moment take off that vegan & raw hat.. step out of the box
Why you may ask?
Because meat, chicken, fish & poultry do provide extremely high amounts of strength as per Ayurveda. But thats not end all be all. The come with major negatives as well.
So if you're a fisherman on a pacific island, or an eskimo in the Tundras or a Warrior in a jungle foraging, hunting then its different ball game.

Animal Products
Meat & Fish
Energetics: Sweet/warm/sweet V- PK+ tamasic
Indications: Meat is the most nourishing food, ex-
cellent for debility, convalescence, lowering high
Váyu
Contraindications: Most potentially deranging food,
breeds toxins or áma, feeds infections, fevers, tu-
mors, dulls the mind and senses, reduces love and
compassion
Long term effects: Creates bad karma (the higher
evolved the animal, the worse the karma) Red meat
of a cow is the most negative karma. Poultry yields
less bad karma, fish even less, shellfish the least,
eggs only very slightly.
The Vedic texts (¤hastras) state that it is accept-
able to take the life of an animal in two instances:
if it is your job, i.e., fisherman; and if one is weak
and it is needed to preserve or save a human life.
Further, meat acts like a drug, inducing energy
to get well, but it does not nourish and rebuild the
subtler tissues
Non-organic animal products are full of hor-
mones, antibiotics, chemicals. The animals are
often diseased and treated badly. Thus, when these
products are eaten, the chemicals are ingested and
affect one’s health Organs (i.e., liver) are very nour-
ishing to their respective organs, but produce low
tissue quality and dull the mind Bones and bone
soup nourish marrow but are heavy, causing toxic
blood
Preparation: Cooked properly with digestive
spices, raw or not completely cooked áma+ and
aggravates blood Salt softens and tenderizes, MSG
has many adverse effects
Soups and stews are easier to tolerate
Deep fried are more aggravating
Canned very tamasic
Combinations: Do not combine well with other
foods, especially milk, bread, or potatoes. Milk is
very toxic (mixing milk to nourish a young animal
with flesh of one slaughtered)
Season: Avoid in summer due to its warm energy,
morning and evening (Kapha times), better for those
in high altitudes or northern latitudes.
Antidotes: Raw vegetables, leafy greens, vegetable
juices, bitter herbs (i.e., aloe gel) may somewhat
antidote meat
Meat has its reason for being minimally consumed in extreme cases.
Neither has the consumption been minimal, nor the cases extreme.
There are vegetarian replacements for all the meat related issues also, probably without the negative characters of meat. But there is no 1 for 1 exact replacement.
But, as I said before.. Ayurveda does not discount anything on Dogma.
Points:
- Meat gives animal strength - i.e. Also adds animal like effects & energies into you. Probably why a lot of americans are the way they are. (Should've seen this video I saw on FB today).
- Raw Food gives high prana & air / space: i.e. decreases fire, warmth & grounding as well. That needs to be balanced.
I like the approach, and just like Campbell wrote (China Study), the best "food" to build human flesh is - yes - human flesh. It contains every molecule needed and in the right porportions. Second up is red meat. The good thing (perhaps for athletes and warriors) is fast growth. Thou on the negative side are the wasteproducts that follows (Robert Young), sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, uric acid and nitric acid plus a wide range of other pleomorphic organisms (some , all waste products from the metabolic functions of the body and always present (in higher or lower quantities). These waste products are acids and therefor disease creating... Animal protein is a good way to faster growth, yet I wonder how great the need of this fast growth is for most people.
