Give it to me Raw

VEGAN SEALS

Raw food Gurus talk to people like they are Millionairs.

I was wondering what people think about this part. I hear about lectures, programs and gadgets and all this stuff. I would have to say raw food stuff is a big marketing industry and is making millions off telling people they have to have this. I think products are way marked up... programs are for gazillionairs and I make a decent living but this is a bit ridiculous. I do understand why restaurants mark the high price because their is a lot of labor going into raw food but in addition the ingredients are mad expensive. From retreats to machines... raw foods lifestyle can be difficult to keep up with if your trying to keep the trend because the cost of each item can make one bankrupt.I know you can be raw the cheap way and be just as healthy eating whole foods that you find in your supermarket. I think a lot of all this is just hype to get people to buy and try the latest and greatest food out there. Which is fine if it something on a case to case basis but really if this is how you eat your entire life... That is one heck of a expensive lifestyle. I think that people can be very healthy if you just exercise, have a lower calorie diet, reduce a lot of the stress in your life, avoid processed foods and eating a large amount of whole foods specially greens.

What do you think? Could the raw movement be a little less trendy and focus on the reality of the matter that people are sick and many of these people are lower income individuals who deal with fast food joints in their neighborhoods and liquor stores and they never get proper education on a good healthy diet. I don't know if there is but it would be great if people put out products for the general public that were affordable including recipes. I mean so many recipes require nuts and they are extremely high priced and it requires a lot of them to make several dishes in a day. I like to help people and there should be ways that lower income people can have access to this great information, food and supplies for affordable prices. People need help because they are very sick and most complain how expensive produce is. I think if they knew how expensive raw food products are they would never go raw. Raw food seems like a club for wealthy individuals. This does not have to be the case.

There is definitely a demand for this stuff but I don't see the prices dropping any time soon.

Maybe that person shouldn't have had so many kids if they knew it'd take more than one job to support them.

Sure, people should think about quality and quantity and the difference between them..

true but not everyone can afford the high quality in reality.

F the raw restaurants, high fat recipes and the "gurus". stick to local organic fruits, vegetables and eat alot of them! I make it work for me for under 300 a month, i eat all organic, mostly local, 100% raw and get all my daily calories(2000-2500). Everything you need to know about the diet is already free, you just have to figure out how to make the food situation work(which isn't tough :) )

If I were going to recommend a diet for people who are trying to cure diabetes, cancer, or lose weight it would be to fast for a month. This is one of the only things that really works. Basically fasting is free too. With all of that mone you save for the first month I would say order a couple of bulk cases of vegetables and sunflower seeds. Keep it simple and it will be affordable.

It's not an easy route to fast for some people but it is very effective. A person can also only spend appx 50.00 on bulk cucumbers and celery for green juice.

Good point. Fasting is free and just imagine the money you will be saving on drugs, doctors visits and kleenex ;)
Who knows what you would be able to do with all the more energy and clarity of mind.
I don't eat breakfast, I eat some fruit/juice and a salad for lunch and again at dinner. My meals are much less expensive now than they used to be. Factoring in dinners at resturants that I don't eat anymore, I save a lot of money eating raw vegan.

I agree that some raw junk food and other products that you can buy online or in health food stores are pricey, but nobody has to buy them. I will say that if I'm gonna make some crazy good raw food that has taken a lot of time and energy to produce, it won't be cheap =)

=) Yeah I just made a batch of garbanzo sprouts. The bag I bought was appx. 2.00 and that can easily feed me lunch everyday for a week. I made a big batch of humus and just change the seasonings like cilantro one day, jalepeno, red pepper another day.. I eat other stuff too- but that one bag made something like 6 cups of sprouts!

Sunflower seeds are awesome too. You can make milk out of them then use the pulp to make crackers. You can blend them and make cheese, "refried beans," and the base of salad dressings... it's amazing!

You are rawsome! Sprouts are great. I must learn more of these refried beans =D
Also raw food has way more nutrients than a sad meal. So you get what you pay for. But in the case of sprouts..haha..we get far more than what we pay for.

I wish I could digest garbanzo bean sprouts, they would be such a cheap source of protein! Maybe if I steam them, that would make them easier to digest. But then they wouldn't be raw.

me + bean sprouts = volcanic eruption

Lentil sprouts I can do though. And they are just as cheap. I am going to go soak some lentils right now!

you could steam them lightly and not let it bother you too much! sometimes I steam broccoli for 3.5 minutes and I doubt I'm damaging it too much (stays nice and crunchy inside)

Fasting isn't technically free, you would have to pay for supervision. I would personally never recommend anyone undertake water fasts over three days unsupervised.
Just wanted to through that one in really.

I still think it's the best healing tool out there though and would happily spend the money for a good fasting retreat place any day.

Like all things that are new and hip it will take some time to bring costs down. The more demand for raw foods and equipment, the less expensive it will be. A few years ago (and still today) we hear the same about buying organic. Now, the demand is growing for organic foods and the prices are coming down. Be patient my friends.

Consider also that the more people TEACHING about raw foods and how to incorporate simple recipes without any expensive equipment - the more people will be on board! SO GO< TEACH! Spread the word and make the world a better place!
Love and blessings

I was at a red light. Same thing also happened to me when Rudy Guiliani crossed in front of my car. Hitting the gas did occur to me for a second or two.
