Give it to me Raw

VEGAN SEALS

Raw food Gurus talk to people like they are Millionairs.

I was wondering what people think about this part. I hear about lectures, programs and gadgets and all this stuff. I would have to say raw food stuff is a big marketing industry and is making millions off telling people they have to have this. I think products are way marked up... programs are for gazillionairs and I make a decent living but this is a bit ridiculous. I do understand why restaurants mark the high price because their is a lot of labor going into raw food but in addition the ingredients are mad expensive. From retreats to machines... raw foods lifestyle can be difficult to keep up with if your trying to keep the trend because the cost of each item can make one bankrupt.I know you can be raw the cheap way and be just as healthy eating whole foods that you find in your supermarket. I think a lot of all this is just hype to get people to buy and try the latest and greatest food out there. Which is fine if it something on a case to case basis but really if this is how you eat your entire life... That is one heck of a expensive lifestyle. I think that people can be very healthy if you just exercise, have a lower calorie diet, reduce a lot of the stress in your life, avoid processed foods and eating a large amount of whole foods specially greens.

What do you think? Could the raw movement be a little less trendy and focus on the reality of the matter that people are sick and many of these people are lower income individuals who deal with fast food joints in their neighborhoods and liquor stores and they never get proper education on a good healthy diet. I don't know if there is but it would be great if people put out products for the general public that were affordable including recipes. I mean so many recipes require nuts and they are extremely high priced and it requires a lot of them to make several dishes in a day. I like to help people and there should be ways that lower income people can have access to this great information, food and supplies for affordable prices. People need help because they are very sick and most complain how expensive produce is. I think if they knew how expensive raw food products are they would never go raw. Raw food seems like a club for wealthy individuals. This does not have to be the case.

There is definitely a demand for this stuff but I don't see the prices dropping any time soon.

Hey there! Dude I totally agree. My mom had cancer and trying to get her affordable ingredients was hard. She had to quit her job, we had to move years ago and so on. Reading your post reminded me exactly why I created my store.

http://www.shoprawfoods.com

After finding out that a product would cost 11 dollars to buy wholesale and seeing it in stores for 39.99 was just too much. In any event, great post, I totally agree and that's why I created my store. ;)

Thanks for posting!

the problem is not that stuff is too expensive, the problem is that you don't make enough money! ;) (I'm paraphrasing a quote by Jim Rohn)

If you only make $5 an hour, then everything is "too expensive", but if you make $30 an hour, then everything is inexpensive.

You get what you pay for. If you pay $30 for a walmart blender, you get a crappy blender that will die in two months, and it will make the worst smoothie ever.

If you pay $400 for a Vitamix Blender, you will get a blender that will last forever, and it makes the best soups and smoothies ever.

Paying a premium price gets you the best, you have high quality equipment and information that will improve your life. If you only pay for cheap equipment and free information, then you will be stuck with crap. I prefer high quality over crap!

I agree the Vitamix is a good option but not everyone is able to buy that. Lets say you work 3 jobs plus you have kids to feed I think a Vitamix is the last thing on your mind but if you still want to feed them raw there are cheaper ways just not if you want to keep up with the super food community. Or participate in a life of top health. I am not poor but I reason with poor because they too should have access to good food not just fast food places. Lets say you took a low income housing area and you took out MCDs and KFC and you put organic health food restaurants priced reasonably and affordable and made sure MCDonalds was far away... Then they would be forced to choose good food. What we have done as a society is say hey those people are poor so they can eat poor nutrient food. If you a wealthy Elite then you have choices. I believe in helping everyone because your only as weak as your weakest link.

vitamix=great, but raw life can be lived without it. it may take a while for the physique and the psyche to adjust, but see if you can get to where a day's-worth of filling food intake equals greens + (maybe) eggs/unpast. milk/raw ribeyes. for ex., get a bunch of celery, a bagful of spinach/kale/collard for lunch (maybe have a kombucha with that) and down 2 eggs from a glass for breakfast and dinner. for all other moments of 'hunger', drink a glass of water or milk. have the steak a few times a week. run, lift, swim 5 days a week. organic ribeyes will break the bank, yes, so put a limit on 'em... but not much else is required.

you are correct: people with stuff to sell will concentrate on catering to common-denominator hungers, and there will be expensive stuff involved. but it is possible to get past the other hungers within you (for grain, sugar, fruit, seeds/nuts, even raw) - these hungers are not human hungers, strong though they may be. starve them out and you can achieve a freedom from them (easy to say, years to do). make a long term plan to wean yourself off those, then enjoy cheap eatin'!

I agree to a point but I think there is also a big difference between paying for good quality and some people adding unreasonable mark-ups which seems to happen a lot in the raw world. Just think of cacao to give one example.

I don't think that raw cacao is marked up. I can get organic, fair-trade raw cacao powder online for $13. Organic, fair-trade cooked cocoa powder costs $15 from the health food store. I think raw cacao is just an expensive item to produce, because the cacao trees only grow deep in the jungle. It is certainly a luxury item.

I would encourage you to eat oranges instead Vampi. Whole food is always best. Oranges are a perfect food; lots of sugar, and lots of fiber to slow down the absorption into the blood stream. Take out all the fiber and you've got a blood sugar spik...

since I find no reason to believe in 'allergies' against 'natural' appropriate stuff, I would think it's more likely just the fact that pineapple if bought in store is pretty much always unripe. Not that it matters to the situation perhaps. ...but...

I write poems (mostly in Seussian rhyme), articles on health, and am working on a couple of books on health...

Nicolas have you ever had a pineapple that does not give symptoms. In my experience around these hoods where we are there are practically no ripe pineapples..or perhaps a few dunno

Yes ma'am. Resting as completely as possible with eyes closed; getting enough water; avoiding too much sun; avoiding toxic substances (personal care products, cleaning products, etc.)
