Ok, i'm providing way too much tmi, but here goes:
does anyone get wickedly constipated right before their period?
Although I'm not 100% yet, I'm eating a lot more fruits and veggies and my system has been pretty regular until a few days ago, when things began moving sloooowly. And bam! then i get my period. this has been the case for a long while, but i thought this would change as I moved into raw.

i'm the complete opposite but i think a raw diet helps everyone to balance themselves out regardless of what particular thing is off so i'd say keep on keepin on! it's good that you are noticing the patterns most people don't even do that much.

That has happened to me-or sometimes I'd alternate between constipation and diarrhea. What's going on there is hormone-induced IBS.
Inflammatory hormones (prostaglandins, arachidonic acid) are what trigger these changes in the intestinal muscle and they are also what cause the uterus to cramp.
The main triggers for these hormones are dairy, meat, cooked oils, too much omega 6/too little omega 3, sugars and if you have a sensitivity, gluten or grains.
Omega 3 fats help to relax the muscle and reduce inflammation. Natural Calm magnesium powder (start SMALL with 1/2 tsp.) will also relax the muscle and soften the stool.
I've also found that chia seeds blended to make a milk do wonders for constipation and so do consuming a few spoonfuls of black sesame seeds. Flax seed doesn't do it for me.
great advice rawzi. i checked the link and might have to give the aloe a try. been drinking green smoothies and haven't had problems (pre-period). guess everybody's different.
like the others i am more prone to diarrhea (mild) before my cycle, not constipation. don't really have any answers for you - but what Erin has to say sounds sensible.

I do the same thing. It wasnt until I was reading a box of Women's Moon Cycle tea(Yogi Tea brand) when it addressed constipation as an issue that I paid attention. I'm nowhere near 100%, so I do find if I'm not properly hydrated, or if I have any sort of heavy meat (red meat as opposed to my usual sushi) that it gets worse. If you come up with any solutions, please share!
I say if you are done having kids and don't want your period anymore get the thermal emblasion done. I did it two years ago before going raw, and it has saved me boatloads of money on all the feminime products. I don't have a period anymore or the side effects that go along with it. And I have never felt better. No more worrying if I am going to get my period and where and no more stained clothes.
I find the best thing to use, weather you're having trouble EITHER way is psylium husk. Take a tablespoon mixed with water or in a smoothie every morning.

Yeah, i had this problem for years! then i gave up drinking mate tea (i used to drink quite a lot of it), and i haven't suffered since. You probably don't drink loads of mate tea, though, so that might not be much help ;)
Chia seeds really help, though. And drinking lots of water.
