Give it to me Raw

Hello! I recently found this community, but I've heard about raw foods before. Now, I'm starting to research raw foods before I start my new lifestyle. But, I'm just so overwhelmed. I've found some links and newsletters and podcasts (Raw Vegan Radio/We like it Raw) but I'm confused. Some of the information is contradicting (what is with bowel and liver cleansing?!) so I don't really know how to launch. I need a solid place to launch off, but I've probably subscribed to too many raw food gurus... and now I'm confused.

I am a college student, so a lot of these recipes are way too complicated and time-consuming. Can someone tell me a good place to start?

I am currently a vegetarian who does not eat dairy.

If someone would be as kind to friend me and help guide a newbie, I would be so grateful! Thank you!

heyy I'm a college student too!! yayyy. :D well I always keep it simple, I don't have a dehydrator or anything but I have a food processor so I make a lot of green smoothies and salads :) I'm still experimenting with recipes but dips and dressings are always good with veggies!!

Do you eat at your college dining hall?

ohhh no I live in a self-catered flat :) do you?? my friend has to eat in dining halls and she said it would probably be a lot harder being raw that way cos there isn't as much food choice..

keep it simple!!!!!!!

educate yourself...read every single book you can get your hands on. they will all contradict each other but i promise, you WILL learn something useful from each.

most helpful thing for me when i started was to get excited about everything rather than worry about what does what and how to do this or that. if you go with what makes you feel good, you can't go wrong. stay conscious and watch your body as it changes! don't worry about anything until your body gives you a reason to.

i fell off the wagon when i started worrying too much. even went through a period where i was a little afraid of food! thats how crazy it can get if you look in to things too much. just sit back, relax your mind, and enjoy the awesomely awesome benefits of going raw! :)

(oh and don't get down if you cheat or mess up. its going to happen, its inevitable! so accept it and work with it!)

good luck and welcome!!! we're all in this together! xoxo

i'm just going to chime in with the keep it simple advice that's already here...find the things you like and the things that you can do in a pinch. Simple rules. and listen to your body. it'll tell you about when to eat heavier or lighter. it's a great journey.

You are right you have gorged yourself on information and now are confused. Pick one thing and do that. I suggest you start with the green smoothie and do that for one week to start out. Don't think about all the rest just make the one change and notice any changes and benifits.

You can't go far wrong with a big raw salad every day to help you starting out. I don't think that any of the guru's are against salad...

they gossip about which teams are going to trade or sign star players. Most of it is bullshit. They just create rumors to sell papers / get hits. Still I eat it up.

Hi agree with Erin, everything she suggested is very similiar to wha ti have found. I am also seeing an accupuncturist and realize that we actually need cooked foods in our diet to support the spleen. Healing with whole foods is a great start..

I've been doing some "research" on ear candling, and have found three different reports: 1) it's great, feels great, and really helps to clear out the sinuses/lymphs 2) it feels great, but that's just the warmth and it doesn't actually do anything...

Because we believe we are dying. Fact is there is no such thing as "natural causes" or "dying of old age" death is always the result of sickness and disease, of which, all are preventable. I choose to not buy into the 'I am dying' thing, it's the...

I'm feeling deprived; I might have been a little too...early for these books. Sounds like they might be worth checking out though as I love a good children's book. Probably the right emotional level for me...
