Ok so I got this new job that I really like. The only problem is that there's no fridge available (for green smoothies and salads) and I'm left with taking only fruits to work. It doesn't bother me since I feel like they're enough for me for the day, but since I'm a quite timid person I can't help wondering what my co-workers think about me.. They must think I'm some kind of an anorexic or something since I only eat fruits at work..
How do you handle situations where you are faced with prejudices about your diet/food choices you make?
Invest in a thermos. It will keep your smoothies and cold soups chilled. Some salads and dishes are also served best at room temperature, particularly those that have sundried tomatos, olives, and other "Mediterranean" flavors. Don't forget that can always just take a tomato and cucumber to work and chop it up there.
A salad unfridged until lunchtime will be fine. just have your dressing not on the salad until go-time. dressing sitting on salad for hours ruins salads.
Thank you for your replies! I once took a salad with me, but to be honest it wasn't the most appealing thing to me (I'm kind of a picky person :) ) I like it fresh.. I did consider buying a thermos though, but I always wondered if it'll really keep smoothies cold enough for several hours. I have to go find a quality one!
I know that I shouldn't let it bother me too much but I've always had some personal issues meaning I'm just a very sensitive person. I think it'll become easier once I get to know more people on my workplace :)
I have all my food (mostly fruit) for the day at my desk in my large bag cause the fridge is always full and also gross. Nobody ever said anything. If anything, people feel guilty when they bring in their smelly junk for lunch. People aren't as bad as you think :) That is what my experience always is.
*IF* I feel someone is about to make a stupid joke (happens when I bust out the green juice bottle) I usually beat them to the punch and say something goofy about it.

I find that marinated salads work well in a 'taking to work' type of situation... the kind of thing you'd WANT to leave lying around at room temperature for a few hours...
LOL those things happen to me too with the misreadings. But no, I'm not such a buff a to be able to beat anyone to a pulp. Plus, that would be the end of my job here !
I think the best thing is to find things about your co-workers you like and focus on that. Work on creating healthy relationships with them, know their hobbies and their childrens names. If you genuinely care about them then that is what they will pick up on.
A lot of raw foodistscome across as judgemental and elitist I think and should focus on having meaningful conversations with everyone. Ultimeately peace and love are the most important thing so focus on that and really appreciating everything you have in life that is wonderful!
I laugh at my lunch more than anyone here (I'm in my work office as I type this and people walk by frequently)...
Everyone at work knows I'm a vegetarian who eats unreal quantities of raw food. It's piled on my desks and shelves most days. It's a great conversation starter and I never tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't eat. (but I know some here at work have changed their diets a bit based on discussions with me over the years....it's nice to see, but it's not my goal to convert anyone to raw or any diet.)
I don't want co-workers to feel judged or threatened by what I do. Preaching to them would change the nature of my relationships with them so I don't discuss food unless someone asks...and some do ask and are genuinely interested in why I do what I do. Then I try to be helpful but not pushy.
Anyway...I'm rambling, but not really addressing the question! Here's my advice: bring a small cooler and don't make a big issue about food. Don't worry about what other people think. They will like you even if you eat weirdly...just be an approachable, helpful friendly person. Try not to make an exception of yourself. Be a good co-worker instead of a raw foodist or whatever.
We all tend to think people spend time thinking about us and being critical, but in reality, most people are focused on themselves nearly exclusively. We limit ourselves with our imagination (fear) about what everyone thinks of us.....but, they are mostly thinking of themselves!
Baby, don't worry about it, this is such a little saga when we think about it. Just tell them your doctor says you gotta eat like this, then nobody will come down on you ;) - say you have food intolerances - that that shit will make you sick - I say it, I love that, it's real - because it does make us sick so we are intolerant and DR Doug Graham, indirectly told me that food would make me sick - so a doctor did say it =P. Just take a salad and a couple of fruits to work with a salad - salads will keep until lunch, and then eat a super massive breakfast and tea (if you eat that). Saga sorted, besides you're all raw so you're are totally happy and saprkly and got all that juicy charisma that raw brings out - so they are gonna love you, so no worries ;).
would you say tv programs us because of the advertising? what if we get the shows that are more harmless on a dvd box set or itunes? i do think some shows program us like the reality tv full of morons who reinforce idiocy but i can't help but feel...

I think its more like religious (spiritual) people are inclined towards healthy eating (raw foodism/veganism) insomuch as they recognize the value of life (which is worth living)...
