Give it to me Raw

I've been eating raw for about 6 weeks now. The first few weeks I was full of energy, excited, the novelty of this new lifestyle was exhilerating. Now it seems like all that has gone away. Maybe this can be attributed to transistioning from the transistion stage to the lifestyle stage of raw....

Anyway, I'm trying to understand how an individual can tell if they have any kind of vitamin, mineral, and/or nutrient deficieny. I read all about different deficiencies but what I don't understand is how do you know whether you are lacking any individual nutrient? How do I know for instance that the way I feel (low energy, more erratic emotions, etc) isn't due to something crucial missing in my diet?

any incite would be appreciated,

Ken

Hi Ken, just a thought:

I've learned that fruits and some veggies are very high in carbs and sugars. First you feel really good, high, but then the body can't cope with the carbs and sugars and you might feel lethargic, weak, not so much energy anymore. What if you need some good fats!? I started with fats and just about everything got so much better. I eat heavy creams, butters, cheese. I'm never tired, have stable mind and energy levels and great endurance and strength. When on raw, i was always 'hunting' for foods to fill me up. Don't get me wrong, greens are vital, but the question is what fruits does to your long term. I changed my diet dramatically but still enjoy my greens (wild ones). I live in Sweden so i will follow what is in season for my country. fresh Berries and fruits in September, fresh herbs in summer etc. Imported stuff makes my gums go crazy so I stopped eating those fruits. My joints first went nuts on fats but that is also getting so much better. I can indulge on organic 100% butter and I still feel great! No more strange hunger pains, no more bleeding gums, nor pains, and teeth getting whiter naturally, on all those fatty stuff. Maybe you should be a little more careful on fruits if type 1 diabetic. It's good if you check with your physician and ask him about a modified paleo diet etc. Check Low Carb High Fat, it can work wonders if your body doesn't do well on 100 % raw. Listen to your instinct and do what is right for you. And also, detoxing should stop very soon after a change in diet. It took me no more than 4 weeks to turn things around. I have more energy than my kids and I'm now 46...I'm never sick, sleep like a baby and enjoy local foods and simple living. No worries!

Love,

Just a tweaking tip...I would sub hemp for the flax and wheat if you can. It's nutritionally superior in every way and free of the antinutritional factors in the flax and wheat. Making hemp milk is very easy. I just blend mine and strain.

If you can get a good source of walnuts, they are also a very superior fat. Coconut is also great!

Don't forget berries, they are high in energy and important nutrients and many are low in sugar. You could put some in your smoothie in the morning and use less agave.

Im actually thinking too much fat. No fat at all is good. for some, knock fats out and see how you feel?

Ken, can you post a meal plan for your average day?

I'm very curious about cases where people initially thrive on a raw food diet but eventually feel lackluster.
