Will give this a whirl on my hair. I'm surprised about hearing about using baking soda on the skin, I would have thought it would be drying. For skin care I can recommend a good rub down with salt for beautiful soft skin and for the face a 1/2 and half mix of honey and coconut oil. Even when I was cooked this made my skin clear up. For an intensive conditioner, coconut oil rub in and left overnight woorked great with mine, but I admit I washed it out with a conventional shampoo.

I do not use anything and my hair does better than ever. Go figure.
I figured this out after going raw.
I always used to wonder to myself how in the old days they got along without shampoo. I think it is just a marketing thing making us think we need it.

I have tried no poo twice. The first time it went great but then we moved and I stopped for a while. I alternated baking soda/apple vinegar and diluted lemon juice. Then I tried it again for several months (almost a year), mostly on the lemon juice, but my hair stared to get awfully dry, so I stopped for a while until I figure out what to do next.

I wanna try going no poo. I've been using OCM method for my face the past few months and absolutely love it! And now I'm ready to try eliminating shampoo next. So I've been reading thru forums to find out what people are using in place of shampoos. Seems baking soda and vinegar is the way to go which is great since I already use both. But still, I'm a little afraid to take the leap in eliminating the shampoo all together. I'm seeing comments where people are saying they only wash their hair once a week or even less often than that(!!?!!?). Do you mean you don't shower every day?!? Or shower and just use water? I'm used to showering and washing my hair every day. I would appreciate feedback. Thanks!

(I have very, very fine, thin and oily hair.)

Now im using amla powder to wash my hair ,i was having many problems with my hair because it is very curly and dry :) but now with only amla powder it became beautiful again...And to moisturize my body i am using shea butter(the real one from Africa) and sometimes i use coconut oil too!!!

How do you use the amla powder? I've read you need to mix it with hot water, let it sit for some hours and then put it on your hair for around 10-20 minutes and then wash it out?

Reply to This

I let sit only for 20 minutes and sometimes i just mix with water(not a lot) so it becames a thick cream and i just rub my scalp with it, leave it for 15 minutes and rinse with cold water(no conditioner )... My hair looks nice :))

What is amla powder?

Reply to This

Amla powder is made from the powdered dried fruit of the Indian Gooseberry tree. It is often used in tanning and dying wool and silk and in Indian medicine. Amla can be used on your hair to slow hair loss, increase thickness and slow graying. It also leaves hair soft, silky and shiny. As a facial, it can tighten and tone the skin and balance redness. Amla is a wonderful exfoliant as it has natural astringent properties which help to remove dead skin cells without the chemicals of commercial products

Interesting topic, I see a lot of crossover between raw food and spirituality. Having been raised 1/2 of my life in orthodox Christianity and the other 1/2 just slightly outside of Christian orthodoxy, coming into raw has been a bit of a walk "on ...
