Give it to me Raw

I have been noticing that there are some more well know raw food folks who have been living the lifestyle devotedly.

It seems they are gaining weight.

I guess its possible by overdoing the nuts and oils... but - i would love to hear if anyone has experience with this. Ever heard of people gaining on raw foods??

*** reminder - i am not aiming at judgement. Just curious about observation. :)

I think the "I don't care if they are healthy, they aren't raw" attitude reminds me of why the raw community has a bad rep. Health should be the first priority. If it works, it works.

The about section here says "Our focus is on getting real health results, not on promoting an agenda." Wish all raw fooders thought that...

I am sorry about barging in, but I have been following this discussion with great interest. Please, RawZi, Ev, I would love your advice. I have done a web-based test and it tells me my mind is 4/4/4 but my body is mostly vata. I have a very delicate but strong bone structure - narrow hips, shoulders, big bosom. Fat accumulates mainly on the stomach/thighs, but also upper arms and lower back. I have a lot of fat on me now, but people who don't see me naked laugh because they think I don't need to lose any - I look ok. How can I burn all this fat??? I have 3 small children, full time job as a writer (sitting on my but a lot) and anytime I excercise I get such a red face - it feels like it si going to burn off. I do tend to eat like it is last food on Earth - huge portions. I am sorry if it feels unappropriate to ask such personal question on this forum, but I thought about it for 24 hours and decided to go for it. Any advice will be appreciated. I really am fed up (quite literally) with being a fattie. Thanks a lot and blessings to you all.
yes, I will definitely give it ago. I jsut edited my comment - I am vata, not kapha. I guess it makes more sense... I know nothing about ayurveda and only learning. There is a lot to learn. Living in England - hard to get raw dairy/consciously raised meat, but I will definitely give it a good try. Thaks so much for your reply. Blesings and love to your too ;))
I could NOT do 100% vegan - it just seems alien to me on the instinctive level. I am very comfortable with raw dairy, cultured or not, raw fish - am to try raw meet still. Love green veg and salads. LOVE avocados. But I do have such a sweet tooth, which I guess is due to undiagnosed candida and parasites.
Don't worry about calling me obese - I know I am not, but with my bone structure and perfect healthy weight of 50 kgs being 62 is pretty much overweight. Can you reccommend a good source of information on the primal way? Much <3 to you too ;)) And a huge thank you.
girl...u rock.

its mother natures design and works everytime..

Yeah, mother nature's design, anything smaller than the local predators that is slow enough will be removed from the equation, it's the standard method of extinction of anthing injured, old, disabled, slower due to being over weight, slower due to being pregnant, slower due to any number of reasons. Mother nature's design. It was also used to defend Hitler's euthenasia policy of the disabled, what was judged as a 'poor' quality of life wouldn't be allowed in nature, so it was ok to kill them off, because they couldn't run as fast as 'healthy' people. Funny thing was that institutionalised disruptive Aryan were also euthenased because they lowered the quality of life of their carers. Mother nature's design was used to defend all of those actions.

How come Doug Graham doctor of chiropractic, says you can do 80/10/10 with cooked food? That would be taken to be a recommendation by most people. He just says you get the ultimate results from raw 80/10/10.

durian rider said im not gonna keep arguing with crew that treat animals like pieces of meat
Oh my goodness, are you arguing? I'm not arguing, I'm discussing,

I have absolutely no idea what the meat comment means - I eat no animal products, no honey, no milk, no eggs, no cheese, though I would happily try raw cheese if I ever found a source for it, I used to love cheese, so I don't bother saying I am vegan, saying vegan would be sort of lying by lack of availability of something I would possibly consume. Only animal products I purchase are raw meat for carnivore household animals to consume, no cooked meat. My cats eat meat, mother natures design and all that, big teeth used for riping flesh, short intestine, etc. I'm not going to force some non-species specific diet on them.

There is this idea in America that excellent health is, just stop eating certain things, a magic dietary brew, or going to the gym or jogging every day, when excellent health in most cultures is an observable holistic experience. I think the body responds and regulates itself based on a lot of different variables working well simultaneously. As mentioned, when we look at most indigenous cultures, people are lean, relatively muscular many times sporting six packs, and most of these cultures have no concept of routine exercising for physical fitness alone. I believe that good health is a routine combination of the right foods, purposeful physical daily activity, and overall attitude or psychological wellness. I also believe there should be a daily connection between these elements of life.

I use to always notice that people who love to work in their gardens where rarely overweight and many times were observably in very good physical shape; you would have thought they were going to the gym every day! They would toil the soil with a sense of purpose and delight and would work in their yards feverish for hours without being stressed. This is like what we see in most indigenous cultures, both hunters/gathers and agrarians. Exercise is directly connected to daily activity centered on purpose, and eating merely fuels the engine to keep the body in motion as well as stabilizing the much needed sociopsychological communal construct, whereas in western culture the society is built on the convenience of resting, sitting, less effort, short trips, less physical mobility to get from point A to point B, as well as convenient mechanized transportation. And food has become disconnected from the kinetics of one’s lifestyle, activity, culture, purpose, and the communal family or village.

Looking at how much oil, nuts, and high-glycemic food alone is an excellent start and something to definitely consider, but it is merely part of the bigger picture. Our level of incidental and purposeful activity daily and what we eat and metabolize are very emotionally-based and physiologically jointed.

Peace

Thank you Ev, for pointing me in the right direction. My friend called me today with the details of a clinic that does bloodwork. She wanted to have her live bodies count done - she is a diabetec and is now trying the "PH miracle cure". I will do what you say - it will be interesting. Thank you so much for your advice. Gratitude and love

If I tend to eat more nuts, I do notice a slight gain in weight. I never became "obese" from living in the raw lifestyle. When eating raw, your body is constantly detoxing.. It's a beautiful thing!

i went to a talk of victoria boutenko's in a australia. she courageously bought up her weight issue and attributes it, in her case, to lifestyle factors. because her work involves long hours researching and alot and dealing with people one the phone all day, this is very draining on the adrenals. victoria said that people were not meant to do these sorts of tasks all day naturally and i agree. because of this lifestyle she comes home late at night and has a problem with eating at night too much which causes her to gain weight. some might think this is a cop out but i feel that she is very genuine. the boutenkos have a low fat approach to raw food now and eat loads of greens and fruit, no oils or fats of that nature. very little nuts and some seeds. i don't think that fat always equates to being overweight either. i do quite well with a moderate amount of fat from avocados, olives and coconuts, chia seeds ect.
